The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is in search of interested cities to play host to the next World Conference in 2019.
The World Conference on Doping in Sport has had four editions already, and will move to its fifth meeting in November of 2019.
According to a WADA post on June 1, “past conferences have seen participants from the sport movement, public authorities, anti-doping organizations, athletes, coaches and the media converge to address how to tackle the most pressing issue facing sport today – doping.”
In the fifth World Conference, the WADA hopes to discuss and make improvements to the way the world is fighting doping in sport. There have been a large number of athletes over the last year who have been caught and suspended or banned as a direct result for doping, but it seems that more and more positive results are uncovered as the days go on.
Any interested cities and countries are to submit an “Expression of Interest” to the WADA. More info below comes directly from the WADA post on June 1st:
WADA asks cities and countries that are interested in submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to host the Conference, to:
- Consult the linked document outlining the decision process and timelines for selecting a host city;
- Consult the linked document that, among other things, outlines the expected criteria for a host city; and
- Submit an EOI, in English or French, by Friday, 25 November 2016.
The decision regarding the host city will be taken in May 2017 by the WADA Foundation Board.
