Virginia Tech Gets Verbal Commitment from Butterflier Leah Rogers

Leah Rogers of Nation’s Capital Swim Club has given her verbal accord to the Virginia Tech Hokies for 2015-16.

Rogers is a US Open qualifier in the 200 fly and a Winter Nationals qualifier in the 100. At the 2014 NCSA Spring Championships, Rogers finaled in the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly distances. Her top times are:

50y fly: 25.02
100y fly: 54.34
200y fly:1:59.88
200y IM: 2:06.00
50y breast: 31.09
100y breast: 1:05.59
50y free: 24.38
100y free: 52.92

Rogers swims high school for Woodson, where she holds the 200 IM and 100 fly records and is a member of all three relay records. At the 2014 Virginia High School 6A State Swimming and Diving Championships, Rogers took fifth in the 200 IM and second (to Janet Hu) in the 100 fly. She also swam the fly leg on Woodson’s fourth-place medley relay and led off their seventh-place finishing 200 free relay.

Rogers will be a nice addition to the Hokies’ lineup. Both her 100 and 200 fly times would have scored in the B finals at 2014 ACCs. While Virginia Tech had three finalists in the 200, only one scored in the 100 so Rogers should have a positive impact right off the bat.
