Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

A member of the Indian National Team and Aqua Nation Sports Academy in Dubai, UAE, Tanish George has announced that he will be coming to the United States next fall to swim for Virginia Tech. George is a member of the class of 2022.

I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Virginia Tech!! I want to thank my parents, my coach and my friends for supporting me and helping me become the person I am today. I can’t wait to start this new chapter…. GO HOKIES!!

Internationally, George represented India at the 2019 FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest. Racing in the 50, 100 and 200 fly, his best finish came in the 200. In that event, he finished in 21st, touching in a time of 2:02.71.

Many of George’s best times come from last October when he was a multiple event finalist at the 1st UAE Swimming Community Championships. There, racing in short course meters, he finished with the top time in the 50 free (22.91). He also added new best times in the 100 free (50.72), 200 free (1:50.53), 50 fly (24.58) 100 fly (54.21), and 200 IM (2:11.18).

Top LCM Times (and SCY Conversions)

  • 50 free – 23.82 (20.73)
  • 100 free – 51.75 (45.18)
  • 200 free – 1:51.17 (1:37.27)
  • 100 fly – 55.57 (48.80)
  • 200 fly – 2:02.71 (1:48.02)

The Hokies are incredibly deep in the fly events, with Youssef Ramadan, Antani Ivanvov, and Blake Manoff currently leading the team in the 100 and 200 flys. Last year, the team had four men qualify for NCAA’s in the 1oo fly, with Ivananov taking 6th in the race at the meet. Ramadan also holds the 5th fastest time in NCAA history but was disqualified in prelims of the event at the 2021 NCAA Championships. He is also only a sophomore, meaning Geroge will have two years of training alongside him when he arrives on campus.

Entering December, the Virginia Tech men are currently ranked 17th in the NCAA on SwimSwam’s December Power Rankings.

Joining George in the class of 2026 are Aiken Do, Carl Bloebaum, Landon Gentry, Mitchell Stroud, and Will Hayon. A large portion of that group also competes mainly in the butterfly events, with both Bloebaum and Hayon having already gone sub-48.0 in the 100 fly.
