Russell Wood is currently having one of the best seasons of his life, and will need to leave everything in the pool if he wants to claim gold at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Ont. in the 100m backstroke.

Going into the meet, Wood is the fastest backstroker this season who will be competing. At Canadian Trials in April, Wood swam a time of 53.96 which currently ranks him within the top 25 swimmers in the world this season.

Wood is the only swimmer who will be competing at the Pan American games in the men’s 100m backstroke to be ranked top 25 globally in the event.

Regardless of this seasons rankings, Nick Thoman looks to be a viable option for gold. As the 2012 Olympic silver medallist, there’s no denying that he can bring speed to the table.
