BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont swimming & diving team announced tri-captains for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Rising senior Emily Murphy will captain the team for the second straight year, joined by rising senior Katie Rivers and rising junior Kira Parker.
Murphy enters her second season as captain after a stellar junior campaign. Named the team’s Athlete of the Year, Murphy earned America East All-Conference honors on the three-meter board and earned weekly conference diver of the week honors four times in 2019-20. The Greenwich, Connecticut native is a Public Communication major at UVM.
Rivers will captain the team alongside classmate Murphy after a stellar junior campaign of her own in 2019-20. The Charlotte, North Carolina native piled up three top-10 finishes at the 2020 America East Championship, finishing fourth in the 400 IM (4:28.06), eighth in the 200 IM (2:07.39), and ninth in the 200 fly (2:07.17). All three times at the conference championship marked top-10 program times. Rivers is a Political Science major at UVM.
Parker will enter her junior season as team captain after a strong sophomore season in 2019-20. The Kamuela, Hawaii native placed fifth in the 100 back (57.08) and ninth in the 100 free (52.26) at the 2020 America East Championship. Her 57.08 time in the 100 back marked the seventh-fastest in program history. She also helped the 200 free relay team return to the top of the podium at the conference championships, helping post a time of 1:35.13 for the win. Parker is a Neuroscience major at UVM.
