Over the weekend University of Victoria Pacific Coast Swimming picked up their fifth straight BC AAA Championship title. Over the five day competition UVic-PCS collected 2332.5 points while the Hyack Swim Club earned 2011 points and Island Swimming finished with 1743.5 points.
Two of the team’s top performers were 13 year olds Sophie Lorette and Keir Ogilvie. Lorette won the 400 and 800 freestyle as well as the 200 butterfly in the girl’s 12-13 year old age group. Ogilvie swept the butterfly events taking the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly in the boy’s 12-13 year old age group.
The only new provincial record set at the meet was put up by Pacific Sea Wolves girl’s 12 and under 4 x 50 freestyle relay team. 12 year old Stephanie Lee led off the relay in a time of 27.82 touching almost a second and a half ahead of the field. Lee and her teammates Jessy Barton-Jensen, Brighe Buxton and Eva Wen posted a time of 1:55.94 close to four seconds ahead of their closest competitors.
They broke their own provincial record of 1:57.46, which was set in May. Although they destroyed the provincial record they were still almost a second and a half off the national record of 1:54.55 set by the Olympian Swim Club in 2009.
