Senior Michael Glenn set a pool record in the 200 Breaststroke and joined teammates Alessandro Bomprezzi and Trent Kindvall with an undefeated individual meet to turn a 2-point deficit into a 92-point UMass victory at Binghamton in West Gym Pool Saturday.
The win was the first of the season for UMass (1-2) and the ninth-consecutive over Binghamton (0-1).
UMass finished the meet with 14 victories, 11 of a possible 12 on Saturday to create some separation with Binghamton for the victory. The Minutemen won 14 of 15 individual events and held a 160-66 edge in the day’s 12 events.
Glenn opened the second day of competition with a win in the 400 Individual Medley – just ahead of fellow Kansan Heath Maginn – before adding the 100 Breast three events later. Glenn saved his best for last, reaching the wall in the 200 Breast in record fashion of 2:05.77 for his first victory in the event this season.
Bomprezzi was as solid as ever this weekend as he improved to 8-1 in 2014 with wins in the 500 Freestyle on Friday and the 200 and 1000 Freestyles on Saturday. The junior has won his last seven races after finishing second in 200 the season-opener two weeks ago.
A day after posting a career-performance on the 1-meter springboard with a 288.53, two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Trent Kindvall shattered his previous best in the 3-meter with a 303.75, which placed him tenth all-time at UMass. Freshman teammate James Albanese raised his score on the high board for the second-straight meet and won third after taking fourth on Friday.
Freshman Oliver Wyeth swept both backstroke events with senior Hao Luong nipping at his heels for second each time.
Other first-place finishers for UMass included Owen Wright in the 200 IM on Friday, along with junior Wiktor Karpinski in the 100 Free and sophomores Ben Sloan and Aaron Szczepanek in the 200 and 100 Butterfly, respectively.
UMass will return to action when it plays host to Brown next Saturday, Nov. 8 at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool inside Boyden Gymnasium.
