ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team took first place in 16 of a possible 16 events in Friday evening’s meet with Maine Maritime Academy at Wallace Pool.

Eva Welsh guided the Black Bears with a trio of victories as she took top honors in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.53), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.03), and the 100-yard IM (1:01.18).

Charlotte Hoover took gold in the 200-yard IM (2:12.17) and the 50-yard backstroke (28.11) while Kennady Hart captured wins in the 50-yard freestyle (24.17) and the 50-yard butterfly (26.62).

Haylie Calver swept the diving events posting a top score of 274.20 in the 1-meter event while earning a mark of 240.60 in the 3-meter dive.

Five other Black Bears took home individual wins on Friday:
Carmen Braden – 200-yard freestyle – 1:59.02
Madison Edwards – 100-yard backstroke – 1:00.55
Mia Poirier – 100-yard butterfly – 1:01.84
Laura Dube – 100-yard freestyle – 55.22
Nicolene Harkins – 500-yard freestyle – 5:13.23

Hart, Welsh, Poirier, and Edwards teamed up to finish first in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:51.64.

Poirier, Ainslie Boswell, Braden, and Hannah Deighan took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:41.49.

ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine men’s swimming & diving program posted 15 individual and relay victories in its meet against Maine Maritime Academy on Friday evening in Wallace Pool.

Cam WateletJoey Stauss, and Julian LaPietra each posted a pair of individual victories for the Black Bears.

Watelet took top marks in both the 100-yard backstroke (52.04) and the 100-yard IM (52.50) while Stauss was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly (51.11) and the 50-yard fly (22.91). Julian Lapietra placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.96) as well as the 100-yard freestyle (46.88).

Six other Black Bears posted wins:
Ian Mallari – 200-yard IM – 2:00.33
Finn Devers – 200-yard freestyle – 1:46.25
Daniel Tanaka – 50-yard breaststroke – 27.98
Andrew Hoy – 50-yard backstroke – 25.99
Nate Teerlinck – 100-yard breaststroke – 59.32
Kaden Kilger – 500-yard freestyle – 4:53.31

Jeremiah Small took first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 286.12 and was the runner-up on the 1-meter board at 167.90.

Maine’s team of Hoy, Teerlinck, Max Ginsburg, and LaPietra took gold in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.57 while Calvin Comeau, LaPietra, Jon Bird, and Matthew Bendoraitis placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:29.08.

ORONO–The Maine Maritime Academy men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams made their 2024-25 season debut Friday on the road against NCAA Division I UMaine at Stanley M. Wallace Pool.

The Mariners were led by sophomore Oliver Cox who took first place in men’s 1-meter diving with 207.0 points, besting the second-place finisher by almost 40 points.

On the women’s side, junior Rayelle Brewer led Maine Maritime with a fourth-place showing in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.99 seconds.

Maine Maritime is next in action on Sunday (Noon) at the Husson University Relays in Bangor.
