INDIANAPOLIS – After a well-fought road split against McKendree Friday, the UIndy swimming & diving teams were dominant at home Saturday, as the top-ranked men’s team defeated Wabash, 153-70, and the No. 4 Greyhound women earned their third-straight dual win against Butler, 143-84.
The Hounds won 17 of the 28 events today, with the big highlight being All-American Kaitlyn McCoy setting the pace in the 400 IM both for the team and in the nation, with her B-cut time of 4:25.6 good for fastest in Division II so far this young season.
Emilia Colti-Dumitrescu and Andrea Gomez also were able to position themselves in the top five nationally in the 400 IM, with Espinosa’s 4:27:76 good enough for a B-cut and the fourth spot in DII while Colti-Dumitrescu earned a B-cut and the third rank nationally with a 4:27.71.
Dumitrescu also improved her 500 free B time by two seconds for a new season best of 5:00:63.
Improvements also came from Mia Krstevska and Caroine Reinke. The North Macedonia-native Krstevska improved her season time in the 200 freestyle with a 1:57.5 while Reinke improved in the 100 butterfly with her 58.7 good for fifth this season for the Greyhounds.
On the men’s side, multiple swimmers improved their times, with the biggest improvement belonging to Liki Prema. Prema shaved more than a half a second off his B standard in the 100 breaststroke, with his 54.05 time placing him at No. 1 in the nation.
Jeron Thompson improved his B-cut with a season-best 45.01 in the 100 freestyle, while Christian Hedeen set a team-best time with a 4:11.00 in his 400 IM debut. In his first 200 freestyle heat this season, Serge Ahadzhanian’s time of 1:39.4 was good for a B-cut, as well as the second fastest on the team this season and fifth-fastest nationally.
On the diving side, All-American Julio Osuna continued his impressive form on the boards. Following up his record-breaking performance on Friday, Osuna swept Saturday with scores of 256.87 in the 3-meter dive and 368.92 on the 1-meter board.

The Hounds will take the next week off as they prepare for the House of Champions meet at IU Natatorium on Thursday, Nov. 17 through Saturday, Nov. 19.

The Bulldogs swam against in-state competition on Saturday, taking on UIndy in a dual meet. The meet was highlighted by Butler’s two first place finishes in the 200 Free and 100 Fly. Olivia Stotts was tabbed “Swimmer of the Meet” for the Bulldogs after great performances in the 50 Free, 100 Free, and 200 Free Relay.
Kate Schilling won the 200 Free with a time of 1:57.50. Her teammates were close behind as Elizabeth Naylor and Emily Landwehr clocked times of 2:00.78 and 2:02.00, placing third and fourth.
Landwehr shined for Butler in the 100 Breast as well. She placed fourth, but she broke her season-best time with the 1:08.30 swim.
Alani Hightower-Bend swam a winning 100 Fly time of 58.70. Schilling also impressed in the 100 Fly event, placing third with her time of 59.97.
Despite finishing fifth, the 200 Medley relay team of Caroline Zimner, Alexa Vota, Schilling, and Megan VanValkenburgh raced their fastest time of the season, touching the wall with a time of 1:53.01. The Bulldogs also swam a fast time of 1:39.87 in the 200 Free Relay as Hightower-Bend, Abigail Roberts, Olivia Stotts, and Landwehr finished second place.
Roberts and Stotts led Butler in the 50 Free earning third and fifth place. Roberts was timed at 24.84 while Stotts was just behind with her 25.06. The two also took fourth and fifth respectively in the 100 Free with times of 55.06 and 55.52.
Cotter Welch earned Butler another top three finish in the 1000 Free. Her 11:10.06 time put her in third and wasn’t far off her personal best.
Zimner finished strong in the 100 Back to take second with a time of 59.15. Olivia McKee came in fifth in the same event, clocking in at 1:01.66. Zimner also swam fast in the 400 IM taking fourth with a 4:31.06.
The Bulldog’s added two more top five finishes in the 500 Free as Grace Crane and Naylor raced times of 5:21.66 and 5:31.91 which placed them in third and fourth place.

Wabash split its swimming and diving team over the weekend. The Little Giants sent one group to compete at NCAA Division II’s University of Indianapolis, where Wabash lost 153-70. A second group went to the University of Chicago for the D3 Shootout, finishing eighth out of eight teams.
Wabash freshman Xander Straw turned in a second-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle at the University of Indianapolis in the double-dual meet that also included the team from Butler University. Straw completed the race in 1:46.10. He scored a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:46.14. Eli Arnold placed second with a time of 5:14.05.
Morgan Govekar captured third place in the 100-yard backstroke by finishing in 59.77. Dane Market scored first-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.81. Aidan Mason finished in second place after completing the race in 1:08.93.
Wabash closed out the meet with UIndy by earning first-place points in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Straw, Ethan Comeyne, Arnold, and Jack Pendleton combined for a time of 1:34.37.
Wabash scored 303 points at the two-day D3 Shootout. The University of Chicago won the men’s competition with a total of 564 points. Washington University – St. Louis placed second with 476 points. Pomona-Pitzer finished third with 443 points.
William Morris scored a pair of fourth-place finishes for Wabash in the diving events. He scored 218.80 points on the one-meter board to earn a fourth-place finish. Morris tallied 216.80 points to place fourth overall in the three-meter diving event.
Caleb McCarty swam to sixth place in the “A” final of the 50-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 21.55. McCarty captured sixth place in the 100-yard freestyle “A” final with a time of 46.95. Jacob Penrose placed eighth in the “A” final of the 400-yard individual medley by finishing in 4:28.26. Penrose added another eighth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly “A” final by completing the race in 2:02.98. Ethan Johns scored an eighth-place finish in the “A” final of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.33. Johns finished the 500-yard freestyle “A” in 4:56.38 to place eighth in the “A” final.
Barret Smith took eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke “A” final with a time of 53.34. Smith finished eighth in the “A” final of the 200 backstroke after completing the race in 1:58.87. Eddie DeMata added an eighth-place finish in the “A” final of the 100-yard breaststroke after turning in a time of 1:00.20. DeMata scored another eight-place finish in the “A” final of the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:14.59. Connor Craig picked up an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly after finishing in 53.86. Justice Wenz took eighth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.96.
“We had an incredible weekend of great swimming and diving,” Wabash head coach Will Bernhardt. “Even though we split the team in half, both meets produced some great stuff against some of the country’s best Division II and III teams. Nearly every guy on the team earned a season-best time or score, and many earned lifetime-best times. That is very encouraging so early in the season.
It was great to see our men step up against this amazing competition. They weren’t scared or intimidated. They executed their race strategies and simply raced to the best of their ability. We had a lot of freshmen step up and really shine. Seeing their growth in just a few short months on campus was fun. We are very excited for their future and what the rest of the season has in store for them.”
Wabash will host the Gail Pebworth Invitational on November 18-20 at the Crawfordsville High School Aquatics Center.
