Coto Coyotes Swim Team member Emily Boggess has verbally committed to the University of California, Santa Barbara Gauchos class of 2020. The senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School was a two-time finalist at the 2014 Sectional Championships in California, finishing 4th in the 500-yard free (4:52.25) and 5th in the 1000-yard free (10:00.33).
Boggess shares a bit of her background training at the Coto Swim Club, “One thing we do have is a group of amazing coaches and dedicated swimmers. When I was 14, my coach taught me to love the sport, and that hard work produces results. From then on, I pushed myself every time I got in the pool.”
Her best times are as follows:
- 200-yard free: 1:51.54
- 500-yard free: 4:52.25
- 1000-yard free: 10:00.33
- 1650-yard free: 17:28.47
- 200-yard IM: 2:05.87
- 400-yard IM: 4:29.03
“I immediately fell in love with the team, they were so genuine and welcoming, I had this indescribable feeling of belonging. I’m excited to be a part of the UCSB team and be a part of what makes it so special. I look forward to taking my swimming to the next level at UCSB. Awesome coaches, awesome team. So stoked to be Gaucho!” -Boggess
Boggess’s best 1000-yard free would give her the current UCSB women’s swimming record. Her best 500-yard free would have given her a 5th place finish in the championship final at the 2015 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference and her best 200-yard free would have placed her 5th in the consolation final.
