MALIBU, Calif. — UC Davis recorded a 200 free relay win along with five individual event wins en route to their second conference win in as many days. The Aggies defeated UC Santa Barbara 143-119 and Cal Baptist 195.5-63.5 in a tri-meet Saturday hosted by Pepperdine University. UC Davis moves to 6-1 on the year, and 2-1 in the MPSF.
“The staff is very happy with the way the team competed the last two days against conference opponents,” said UC Davis Head Coach Matt Macedo. “We had numerous in-season best times along with a few lifetime best times which puts us in a great position as we look to Fresno next week. Our focus has been fine tuning our details and while we still have some things to tighten up, I thought we did a nice job moving through two tough days of racing and thought our divers were strong on the boards.”
Naomi Boegholm led a top-four sweep of the 100 free to get the Aggies started. Boegholm (50.91) was followed by Christy Douglas, Katie McLain, and Anna Boyer.
The Aggies swept through the top-three in the 500 free, with Elena Gingras (5:03.91) picking up the event win. Gingras followed that up with another win in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:24.43).
Sam Rhodes won the 200 breast (2:18.01) and the 200 IM (2:04.64).
Boegholm, McLain, Douglas and Sophi MacKay teamed up to champion the 200 free relay (1:32.67), finishing a second off their mid-season best time and picking up the sixth win of the day for UC Davis.

UC Davis is back on the road next week taking on Fresno State in a non-conference meet. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11:00 a.m.

MALIBU, CALIF.: Following an exhilarating double dual meet against the California Baptist Lancers and the UC Davis Aggies, the UC Santa Barbara men’s and women’s teams secured a triumph over CBU, while the women’s team faced a setback against the UC Davis Aggies. The conclusive scores for the men’s team stood at 173 for Santa Barbara and 88 for CBU. On the women’s front, the final scores were showed a Davis victory against Santa Barbara, with Davis earning 143 and Santa Barbara 119. As for the women’s scores against the Lancers, the final tally came out to 179 Santa Barbara and 82 California Baptist.
Women’s Top Tier Moments:
Throughout the afternoon, the women’s team showcased an impressive display of skill, securing multiple first-place victories for the Gauchos in their respective events. Samantha Banos set the tone by claiming gold in both the 200-yard freestyle, concluding with an outstanding time of 1:52.44, and the 200-yard butterfly, where she showcased her expertise with a final time of 2:01.87. The sophomore standout, Hazel Derr, dominated the 100-yard backstroke with a swift time of 56.69 and continued her success in the 200-yard backstroke, achieving a noteworthy time of 2:03.51. Additionally, both sophomore Ashley Ray and freshman Makenna Leacox delivered golden performances. Ray secured first place in the 100-yard backstroke, crossing the finish line at 1:04.11, while Leacox triumphed in the 100-yard butterfly with an impressive time of 55.87.
In the Women’s relays, the 200-yard medley relay team, composed of Hazel Derr, Ashley Ray, Makenna Leacox, and Hannah Joseph, clinched first place, concluding with an impressive time of 1:44.21.
Men’s First Place Victories:
As for the men’s team, multiple athletes secured top-tier finishes, demonstrating excellence throughout the afternoon. Junior Matt Driscoll kicked off the pace with a remarkable victory in the 50-yard freestyle, completing the sprint in a swift 20.85 seconds. He also earned first place in the 100 backstroke, finishing the race in an impressive 50.32 final time. Standout Austin Sparrow showcased his prowess in the 100-yard freestyle, claiming first place with a rapid time of 44.82, and continued his success in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing at an impressive 1:39.01. Freshman Jack Nugent excelled in the 200-yard backstroke, earning the top spot with an impressive time of 1:51.38. Senior Corban McIntosh displayed dominance in the 100-yard breaststroke, securing first place with a strong time of 55.70, and continued his success in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing at 2:04.15. Kyle Brill showcased his versatility in the 200-yard individual medley, claiming first place with a commendable time of 1:51.30.
In terms of relay wins, the Gaucho men took home first place in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay. The 200-yard freestyle relay team, composed of Austin Sparrow, Henry Adamson, Zachary Tamusaitis, and Bryden Thielenhaus, delivered an electrifying performance, touching the wall with precision at an exhilarating 1:23.16. Meanwhile, in the 200-yard medley relay, a team made up of William Cussimanio, Corban McIntosh, Bryden Thielenhaus, and Rob Carpenter outpaced their competition with a final time of 1:23.16.

The Gaucho’s next swim meet is scheduled for January 26 and 27 in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they will face off against UNLV and the University of Wyoming. Stay tuned for additional information as the event draws near.

MALIBU/WESTWOOD – California Baptist University men’s and women’s swim & dive took part in a second straight day of competition, this time with the swim side traveling to Malibu to take on UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis, while dive took on a stacked lineup at the UCLA Diving Invitational. The men’s swim squad lost a heads-up dual with UC Santa Barbara, 173 – 88, while the women took on UCSB and UC Davis, dropping the duals 179 – 82 and 195.5 – 63.5, respectively.
Three Lancer men claimed four victories on Saturday, led by a double win from distance king Mark Kovacsics, who won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle in four minutes, 35.18 seconds, and 9:25.50, respectively. Brendan Man added to the win total, taking the 100 butterfly race in 49.40, while Andrew Teh claimed the 200 butterfly crown in 1:51.00.
Sofia Maksimova claimed the women’s only outright win of the day, taking the 50 freestyle race in 23.39, winning by a comfortable .41 second margin.
In Westwood, a pair of Lancer men competed in Saturday’s platform competition. True freshman Nathan Warson dove well in the prelims but fell a handful of points short of qualifying for the finals, taking 18th place with a score of 217.60. Freshman phenom Mario Del Valle took second in the prelims and kept that silver position in the finals, posting a two-round score of 746.85. He finished less than 20 points behind Andrew Bennett from Minnesota, an NCAA Championship finalist from a season ago.
While swim’s week is complete, the divers have one more day of competition ahead of them as the men will move back to the boards at the 1-meter level while the women move to the platforms.
