Thomas Booth Posts QLD All Comers Record In 17-Yr-Old Boys’ 100 Free

2024 QUEENSLAND SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day 3 of the 2024 Queensland Championships brought another state All Comers Record, this time in the boys’ 17-year-old 100m freestyle.

Southside Aquatics’ Thomas Booth ripped a new lifetime best of 48.63 to top the podium in the sole sub-50-second effort of the field.

The teen split 11.11/12.28/12.70/12.54 to get the job done, erasing the former Queensland All Comers standard of 48.90 Andrew Digby put on the books over a decade ago in 2011.

Bond’s Kalani Creech touched next in 50.04 for silver while Brisbane Grammar’s Edward Nelson rounded out the podium in 50.41.

Booth earned silver in yesterday’s 50m free for 17-year-olds, logging 22.41 behind winner Joshua Conias who registered 22.38 for a new All Comers state record. Conias did not compete in today’s 100m contest.

The girls’ 17-year-old 100m free also saw a new record established as winner Milla Jansen of Bond clocked 53.15 for an improved Queensland benchmark.

Jansen split 12.38/13.45/13.68/13.64 to beat the field by over 3 seconds decisively. The former state record stood at the 53.77 Olympic medalist Shayna Jack notched in 2016.

New mom Emily Seebohm was in the water today as well, taking on the open women’s 100m backstroke.

Representing St. Margaret’s, 32-year-old Seebohm turned in a time of 59.40 to bag the bronze behind winner Gemma Cooney and runner-up Bronte Job.

Cooney clocked 58.88 to snag gold and Job was close behind in 59.40.

Seebohm competed at this year’s Olympic Trials, placing 7th in the 100m back and 5th in the 200m back.

Additional Notes

  • Somerville House Aquatics’ Kalani Ireland was too quick to catch in the open men’s 100m free, posting 48.01 for the victory.
  • 18-year-old Hannah Casey put up a result of 54.23 as the fastest open women’s 100m freestyler. That held off 2 Griffith athletes in Mia O’Leary and Phoebe Bentley who touched in 54.46 and 54.63, respectively.
  • All Saints’ Enoch Robb doubled up on his impressive 200m back victory from last night with another win in the 100m back. The 19-year-old turned in a time of 51.09, just out-touching runner-up Mark Nikolaev by .10. Ireland rounded out the podium in 52.31. Robb’s winning result shaved .30 off his previous PB of 51.39 logged just last month.
  • Ireland topped the men’s 100m fly podium in a mark of 51.91, a narrow victory of Robb who was next to the wall in 51.92.
