Tatsuya Murasa Hits 1:41.47 SCM 200 Free JPN High School Record

47th NATIONAL JOC SPRING SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS (JPN)

The 47th National JOC Spring Swimming Championships saw its penultimate night of action unfold from the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

For many rising stars, this competition comes on the heels of the 2025 Japan Swim, which took place earlier this month, representing the sole opportunity to qualify for this summer’s World Championships.

Tatsuya Murasa, who just turned 18 two days ago, is one of the competitors who doubled up on both competitions. Tonight the teen took on the short course meters 200 freestyle where he established a new Japanese High School National Record en route to gold.

Murasa stopped the clock at a mighty 1:41.47 to beat the field by over 3 seconds.

Murasa opened in 48.91 and closed in 52.56 to get the job done. His outing overtook the previous Japanese HS mark, one he held with his former lifetime best of 1:42.14 from last October’s Japanese Short Course Championships.

The current SCM Japanese national record remains at the 1:41.14 Katsuhiro Matsumoto put on the books at the 2022 Short Course World Championships. Murasa is now only .33 away from that benchmark and moving up quickly.

Murasa’s outing tonight carried the momentum from the Japanese National High School record of 1:45.67 he notched to qualify for the World Championships. He was still 17 at the time and he result was faster than American Olympic legend Michael Phelps was at that point in his career.
