2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist in the women’s 100 breaststroke Tatjana Smith highlights the latest list of swimmers that are scheduled to be flag bearers for their respective country at the closing ceremony later today. Kristof Milak of Hungary will also be the flag bearer for Hungary.
Smith is in her last Olympics after announcing her retirement during competition in Paris. She leaves Paris with gold in the 100 breast and silver in the 200 breast. She won gold in the 200 breast and silver in the 100 breast at the 2020 Tokyo Games, making her the 2nd most decorated South African Olympian of all time.
Milak won gold in the men’s 100 butterfly after winning silver in the event in Tokyo. He also won silver in Paris in the 200 fly after winning gold in Tokyo.
Other 2024 Olympic swimming gold medalists who have been announced as flag bearers include Katie Ledecky (US), Kaylee McKeown (Australia), Summer McIntosh (Canada), and Daniel Wiffen (Ireland).
Ireland and the Maldives are both represented by two swimmers. In addition to Wiffen, Mona McSharry will be a flag bearer for Ireland while the Maldives will be represented by Mohamed Aan Hussain and Aishath Ulya Shaig. Not all countries have two flag bearers as some have instead opted for one.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for tonight, Sunday, August 11th, from 9pm-12am local time in Paris (3pm-6pm EST).

Fun list, but shouldn’t Gregorio Paltrinieri be on the list?
Wiffen missed out sadly as he ended up in hospital with a nasty bug.
maybe he shouldn’t have swum the 10k after all
I think he’ll regret it now
Is this the highest tally of swimmers to be flag bearers at an Olympic closing?
At the time of writing, the list appears to be missing Summer McIntosh for Canada.
Summer Mcintosh Canada
Ledecky? Perfect choice!!
Milak will also be flag bearer (or so I have heard).
