Sjostrom isn’t the best UW so her 50 Free SCY wouldn’t be as good as her LCM time is. Even at her best (whenever that was in her career), I still don’t think she’d beat Gretchen Walsh just because of her UWs.
OT (but linked to SCY) among all DI, DII, DIII colleges, how many of them only have a 25y pool, how many of them have a 50m pool, does someone know ?
I’m curious, will there be an article about the qualifying standards for this Olympics in light of the finalized list of qualifiers? I can’t recall the exact numbers from Tokyo or Rio, but there are numerous events at this Olympics that do not have 16 A-cut qualifiers (especially on the women’s side, but the men’a 400IM for example also only has 15), and quite a few where the number of universality athletes is, frankly, absurdly high (in the men’s 100 free for example there are 24 A-standard qualifiers compared to 36 universality swimmers; women’s 50 free: 23 to 33 etc.).
I know there are several aspects to consider at an Olympics other than the absolute quality of competition, but… Read more »
“…from a purely qualitative viewpoint winning gold at any fully attended World Championships will easily be a bigger achivement than winning Olympic gold.”
Qualitatively I can beat most of the learn to swim kids in the world in a 25, but idk if that’s noteworthy.
Like, making it through the rounds is clearly easier when there’s fewer than 16 swimmers in an event, but otherwise idk how that’s gonna impact the medal contenders much.
Can agree that Finke (1500) & Milak (200FLY) look the moast likely suspects for title defence.
Sink or Swims
USA more golds than AUS: unless AUS women hit every possible target then this is an easy Swim due to AUS men being essentially a 2nd division unit (1-2 golds tops). NOT seeing wholesale domination due to reality that “the rest of the world” is liable to take their cut/most likely poach golds from both.
Sjostrom SCY: TBH, this ship sailed many years ago when she chose not to take the NCAA path. Re specified time; IF she actually trained for it – Swim/Under but …….. its not likely to happen
RUS/BLR medals: Could see a finalist but Sink
Marshall/Peaty Paris… Read more »
Hopefully more pertinent to Peaty – would he be willing to move across the world when he (presumably?) shares custody of his son? Did they forget he has a kid?
