Austin Temple, a junior at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, has verbally committed to swim and study at North Carolina State University beginning in the fall of 2026.

Temple (who is no relation to the Austin Temple who swam at Texas a decade ago) is the two-time reigning VHSL Class 5 State Champion in the 50 free and 100 free. This season he won with lifetime bests of 20.02 and 43.94, an improvement over his winning times from 2024: 20.47 and 44.99 –both PBs at the time.
Temple does his club swimming with TIDE Swimming. He specializes mainly in sprint free but also swims breast and back. He won the 50/100/200 free and 50 breast at the ISCA International Senior Cup in St. Petersburg, Florida, last month. He left the meet with new PBs in the 200 free (1:38.42), 50 breast (26.01), 50 fly (23.62), and 100 fly (53.67).
He had a strong showing in long course meters last summer, winning the 100 free at the Virginia Swimming Long Course Senior Championships with a PB of 51.58. He also notched best times in the 50 free (23.68) and 100 back (59.99). He wrapped up the LCM season at 2024 Summer Championships in Irvine, where he lowered his times in both the 50 free (23.55) and 100 free (51.25), making finals in both events.

Temple will join the Wolfpack’s class of 2030 with fellow commits Sam Marsteiner and Liam Carrington. He’ll be joining a program that attracts and produces excellent sprinters, evidenced by top-8 finishes at 2025 NCAAs of their men’s 200/400/800 free and 200 medley relays (the 400 medley relay placed 9th). The Wolfpack had 3 sub-19 second sprinters last season; another 7 were under 20 seconds. They also had 4 freestylers break 42 seconds and 5 under 43 seconds in the 100 free.
