STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University women’s swimming and diving team returned to the pool today for the first time this season in victorious fashion, as the squad defeated the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University, 190-110.
Stony Brook had three student-athletes win multiple events in their home opener. Freshman duo Michelle Vu and Aili Talcott made their collegiate debuts this afternoon and both recorded multiple victories on the day. Vu touched the wall first in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly. Talcott finished in first place for the 200 yard breaststroke and 200 yard IM to give the Seawolves key points. Junior Mary Kate Conway also collected multiple victories today, finishing in first-place for the 100 and 200 yard freestyle.
Four other Seawolves recorded a victory this afternoon, as sophomore Brenna McLaughlin, senior Maddy Enda, junior Briana Liew and freshman Clara Armstrong notched wins against the Pioneers. McLaughlin took the victory in the 200 back, Enda earned a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly, Liew claimed the 100 breast and Armstrong picked-up her first collegiate win in the 500 free.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Stony Brook got the meet off with a bang as it won the 200-medley relay to get the action going. The relay team composed of junior Lara Youssef, freshman Makenna Lindeman, Vu and Talcott recorded a final time of 1:51.25 to pick up the victory.
- Conway secured Stony Brook’s first individual win of the meet as she claimed first-place in the 200 free with a final time of 1:56.99. Conway later picked up a win in the 100 free as she touched the wall in 53.61.
- After collecting her first win of the day in the 200-medley relay, Vu returned to the pool and captured wins in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly at 24.76 and 57.67, respectively.
- Talcott secured a pair of individual wins for the Seawolves. The freshman won the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.81 for her first collegiate victory and later claimed the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.84.
- Junior Sara DiStefano secured a second-place finish in the 3-meter diving, finishing with 235.57 total points.
- The Seawolves moved to 4-3 all-time against the Pioneers, as the squad avenged their 160-139 defeat from last season.

“I’m extremely proud of how our girls competed today. After finishing our first meet, I am excited about what I saw, especially this early in the year. Our freshman group of swimmers and divers showed up huge today and was complimented nicely by our upperclassmen. I am very excited to finally have our season underway,” said head coach Mark Anderson.

The Stony Brook women’s swimming & diving team is back in action on November 6 at 1:00 p.m., at University Pool when it hosts Central Connecticut State. The meet is free to attend and open to the public. The meet is set to stream on FloSports.

STONY BROOK, NY – A strong performance by the Sacred Heart University diving squad highlighted Saturday’s competition at Stony Brook. The Pioneers dropped a 190-110 decision to the Seawolves.
Sophomore Lola Barrett led a one-two-three sweep of the one-meter board with a winning score of 246.45 to set the school record. She took down the record of teammate Olivia McNicholas by nearly 10 points. McNicholas finished second with a score of 235.72 that is just off her old mark.
Rounding out the sweep was Natalie Carbone with a third-place 234.75 that is third on the SHU career charts. Also cracking the all-time top five was rookie Reghan Santoro with a 229.57.
It was McNicholas’ turn to take the top spot in 3m event with a score of 237.22. Carbone broke into the top five in that event with a third-place 223.50. Barrett was a spot back in fourth with a career-best score of 219.00
The Pioneers got two more victories in the individual swimming events. Charlotte Kaduson touched the wall at 10:53.87 to win the 1,000 free. The rookie just missed out in 500 free, placing second at 5:21.36. Senior Casey Barrett captured the 100 backstroke with a top time of 1:00.52.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Barrett, Emma Davis, Ella Krikorian and Kelly Bartnett took second in 3:43.30.
Sacred Heart (0-3 overall) is back in the water next Saturday to face Northeast Conference foes LIU and Howard.
