Start Lists Live For Brazil’s Jose Finkel Trophy, SC Worlds Qualifier

With the Rio Olympics just wrapped up and the Rio Paralympics just about to open, Brazil is already preparing for its next major swimming event – the Jose Finkel Trophy.

The Jose Finkel Trophy serves each year as Brazil’s short course national championship meet, and it takes on even greater significance in 2016 as Brazil will use the meet to select its team for the 2016 Short Course World Championships. Short Course Worlds will take place in Windsor, Ontario, Canada from December 6-13.

Full start lists for the Jose Finkel meet are available here. The meet will run from Monday, September 12 to Saturday, September 17.

The event will feature most of Brazil’s major players. BestSwim.br has some notes on specific entries, and you can find that story in its original Portuguese here. A few major notes:

  • Bruno Fratus and Marcelo Chierighini will both swim just the 50 free and 100 free. Meanwhile fellow sprint freestyler Matheus Santana will take on a wider event range, swimming the two sprint events plus the 50 fly and 100 IM.
  • On the other hand, Thiago Pereiraknown for taking on packed and challenging event lineups, will taper down his swim list, taking on just the 100 IM, 200 IM and 100 fly.
  • Former junior world record-holder Brandonn Almeida will swim the brutal combination of the 400, 800 and 1500 frees plus the 400 IM.
  • Olympic finalist Etiene Medeiros is set for the 50 and 100 free and 50 and 100 back.

BestSwim.br also reports that 5 Argentinian swimmers will be competing: Andrea Berrino, Macarena Ceballos, Ana Belen, Florencia Perotti and 2016 Olympian Julia Sebastian.
