The official results from the 2013 Central American Games in San Jose, Costa Rica are just in and SPIRE Academy Post graduate Swimmer Rodrigo Suriano won two individual Gold Medals for El Salvador in the 100 Meter and 50 Meter Backstroke events. Not only did he win both events, but he also broke both Central American Games records along the way!
Rodrigo has spent the last seven months attending SPIRE Academy as a post graduate swimmer and is training under swim coach Jim Bocci at SPIRE Institute which was recently named an Official United States Olympic and Paralympic Training site — one of just four facilities in the entire country with this designation.
Rodrigo’s Training has included a customized strength/conditioning program through SPIRE’s on-site Michael Johnson Performance Center, Mental Skills Training with Dr. Jack Lesyk, nutrition through SPIRE Fuel. He is looking at several colleges/universities that are very interested in his talents in the pool.
In the 100 Meter backstroke he edged out 23 year old veteran Mario Montoya (Costa Rica) by 9 hundredths of a second for the victory. In the 50 Meter Backstroke Rodrigo broke the meet record by a razor thin margin of 3 hundredths of a second on his way to gold.
