Jackson Chan, 12, RISE Aquatic Club (IL): Chan had an impressive performance at the Illinois 11-14 Age Group State Championships last weekend in Westmont, winning three races and setting best times in seven events. The 12-year-old’s top swims came in the butterfly and backstroke events, highlighted by his 100 fly, where he clocked 56.87 to rank 16th this season in the boys’ 11-12 age group. He also moves to 20th in the 50 fly (25.67), 28th in the 200 back (2:06.48), tied for 41st in the 100 back (58.73) and tied for 49th in the 50 back (27.57).
Isla Rapcan, 12, RISE Aquatic Club (IL): Also posting multiple wins for RISE Aquatic Club at the meet was Rapcan, who won six events in the girls’ 11-12 age group, setting new best times in four of them. Rapcan set a new PB of 1:07.15 in the prelims of the 100 breast, tying her for 7th this season in the age group, before winning the final .01 slower in 1:07.16. She also set best times in the 100 fly (1:01.00), 100 IM (1:01.61) and 200 IM (2:12.85), with the medley swims ranking her 17th and 23rd in the 11-12 age group this season, respectively.
Erin Weaver, 13, Carolina Aquatic Team (NC): Weaver produced seven lifetime bests at the Best of the South meet in Atlanta, highlighted by what she did in the backstroke events. In the 100 back, Weaver clocked 55.27 to claim the win and rank 3rd this season among 13-year-old girls, while in the 200 back, her time of 2:00.03 was good for 2nd place and also ranks her 3rd this season for 13-year-olds. Weaver also set PBs in the 100 free (53.70), 200 free (1:54.36), 500 free (5:06.17), 50 back (27.05, done in the 100 back, though she officially went 27.12 on the medley relay lead-off), and 100 fly (59.14).
Bruce Qian, 14, Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics (MR): Qian won seven of the eight individual events he contested at the Metropolitan Junior Championships last weekend in East Meadow, N.Y., setting new best times in the 100 fly and 200 back. In the 100 fly, Qian put up a time of 50.18 to rank 4th this season in the boys’ 13-14 age group and 93rd all-time, shattering his previous best of 51.24. His PB in the 200 back of 1:53.46 moves him into 32nd in the age group this season, and his other wins came in the 100 free (48.56), 200 free (1:44.85), 500 free (4:42.29), 1000 free (9:44.57), 200 fly (1:56.55) and 200 IM (1:56.79).
Morgan Wu, 11, Long Island Aquatic Club (MR): Also racing at the Metro Junior Championships, Wu had six wins and three runner-up finishes in the girls’ 11-year-old category, setting best times in eight of the nine events. Wu’s top performances came in the 50 back (27.72), 100 back (1:00.39), 100 fly (58.99) and 100 IM (1:02.04). She now ranks 1st in the country this season for 11-year-old girls in the 100 fly, and 2nd in the 50 back, 100 back and 100 IM. She also moves to 3rd in the 50 fly (26.82) and 200 fly (2:14.11), 5th in the 50 free (25.47) and 13th in the 100 free (55.99).
