SMU’s Bryce Klein Advances To USA Diving National Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) – SMU men’s diver Bryce Klein is headed to the 2016 AT&T USA Diving National Championships Aug. 1-14 in Moultrie, Georgia, following a winning performance at the Zone B Championships. The qualifying event is being held in College Station, Texas, July 6-9.

Klein took the top spot on 1 meter, posting a 356.95 total in the final round to win by nearly nine points. In preliminary action, Klein was second to only synchro partner Bradley Christensen with an opening-round total of 373.45. On 3 meter, the Mustang earned himself a bye for the Championships with his performance at Winter Nationals in December.

For his efforts, Klein advances to semifinal rounds at the Championships. In addition to prequalified divers, the top five divers in each of the senior events qualified to compete at the National Championships.

Diving coach Jim Stillson described Klein’s performance as extremely consistent and said he showed what he is capable of doing.

Klein recently competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials and finished seventh in 3 meter synchro finals with Christensen. He also advanced to semifinals on 3 meter.

In two seasons of competition with the Mustangs, Klein has set program records on both 1 and 3 meter, and was named the American Athletic Conference Diver of the Year in 2016. He is also a five-time all-conference selection.
