Seattle University women’s swimming toppled Oregon State, 143-116, Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks defeated a Pac-12 school for the first time in program history with the win at the Connolly Complex.
“It was so exciting,” said Coach Craig Nisgor. “We were fired up today. It was a huge team effort. The energy was so high today and the team had so much fun supporting each other.”
Madi Lydig touched first in the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. In the 1000, she swam a 10:48.82 to claim gold. Emily Bakewell finished second with a 10:56.71 effort.
Lydig won the 500 freestyle event, notching a 5:16.85 to pull away late and finish first for Seattle U.
In the 200 freestyle, Jayna Van Stone won with a 1:57.49 time. Julia Gorman took second, posting a 1:58.54 time.
Paige Treff was the winner in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. In the 50 freestyle, she swam a 24.32 to touch just ahead of Allison Plamondon, who logged a 24.82.
In the 100 freestyle, Treff won with a 54.50 performance. Van Stone was next with a 54.92 effort.
Maddie Dickman, Plamondon, Bryn Lasher, and Treff combined to record a 1:38.98 in the 200 freestyle relay, good for first place honors to wrap up the meet.
Dickman and Jennifer Wong placed second and third, respectively, in both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. Darian Himes, Margaux Thompson, and Sherlyn Devadason finished 2-3-4 for SU in the 100 breaststroke. In the 200 breaststroke, Himes, Bakewell, and Thompson took second, third, and fourth.
Lasher, Emily Gough, and Devadason finished 2-3-4 in the 100 butterfly. Lasher’s time of 57.36 is tied for seventh in school history. Earlier in the day, Lasher, Gough, and Maddie Rapp took 2-3-4 in the 200 butterfly, earning key points for the Redhawks.
Himes and Bakewell placed second and third, respectively, in the 200 IM.
In the 400 medley relay, the team of Wong, Himes, Treff, and Plamondon took second with a 4:09.37 time.
Seattle U returns to action on Dec. 1-3 for the Husky Invite.
