Scottish Swimmers Have Taper Fever: Slow Motion Cap Dive

This might be the coolest swimming video since the Georgia underwater Harlem shake video.

Team Scotland, and the rest of the Commonwealth Nations, are counting down the days to the 2014 Commonwealth Games begin (it currently sits at 12), and have begun their pre-Games training camp.

And they’ve begun it with a bang. We’ve seen some cool cap tricks in the last few weeks, three swimmers in a cap, dropping the cap onto a swimmers head, but this one takes the cake. Kieran McGuckin lofts the cap into the air, and Richard Schafers dives head first into it. It’s not clear if this particular skill will help the University of Edinburgh teammates when they combine as half of the Scottish 400 free relay for the Commonwealth Games, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome.

This probably needs some kind of warning about being unsafe and not trying it at home, but oh man, does it look cool.

Thanks to the University of Edinburgh Swim Team, where both swimmers train, for sharing the video, and thanks to Richard Schafers, the video’s owner and the defending “Fastest Man in Scotland.”
