Sarah Sjostrom put up two World leaders on Saturday at the Swedish Grand Prix (read about those here), but on Sunday she stepped that up to a lifetime best.
That best came in the 400 free, a race that Sjostrom doesn’t swim very often, where she was a 4:12.24. That’s four seconds faster than she’s ever been, though in fairness she hasn’t swum the race since 2010.
In two races that are closer to her primary, she swam a 26.57 in the 50 fly and a 54.59 in the 100 free. That 100 freestyle moves her to third in the world this year.
Among other impressive performers at this meet included Simon Sjodin, who won the men’s 200 IM in 2:00.93. That’s about where he was at this time last year. Joline Hostman won a handful of races, swimming a 1:09.28 in the 100 breaststroke and a 2:29.96 in the 200 breaststroke. Finnish 17-year old Jenna Laukkanen was 2nd in both of those races.
Martina Granstrom knocked off Hostman in the 200 IM by swimming a 2:17.67; Granstrom also won the 200 fly, arguably her best event, with a 2:13.00.
