The organizers of the 2018 Euro Meet announced today in a press release that European, World and Olympic Champion Sarah Sjöström will participate at the Euro Meet for the second time.

Sjöström won a complete set of medals at the Rio Olympic Games, gold in the 100m butterfly, silver in the 200m freestyle and  bronze in the 100m freestyle. The 24-year old, who swims for the club of Södertörn, made her first international appearance at the European Swimming Championships 2008 in Eindhoven where she won her first 100m butterfly title.

The tall blonde swedish swim star focuses on the upcoming long course season – and she could defend three titles (100m free, 50m and 100m butterfly) at the 2018 European Championships (long course meters) in Glasgow in August.

The audience in Luxembourg will see with Olympic Champion Adam Peaty and World Champion (SC) Marco Koch two of the fastest breaststrokers and with Hungarian Laszlo Cseh one of the most successful butterfly and individual medley swimmers over the last 10 years. Also Katinka Hosszu (HUN), Franziska Hentke (GER), Lisa Graf (GER), Hannah Miley (GBR), Jazz Carlin (GBR), Bruno Fratus (BRA), Ben Proud (GBR), Ross Murdoch (GBR), James Guy (GBR), Damian Wierling (GER), Florian Wellbrock (GER) are set to compete at the d’Coque aquatics center in Luxembourg.

SS was exceptionally quick in season last year so it will be interesting if this continues to play out this year. C1 dropped in a 52.37 100fr tonight so it will be interesting to see if there is any “reply in kind”.

Very much becoming ‘the meet’ to be at during this point of the season – An impressive attendee list. No surprise though… Nice winner/place bonuses and a beautiful complex.

That’s a pretty impressive line-up for an early in-season meet!
