Gabriel Manteufel cracked the top-20 national age group (NAG) rankings in both the 200 freestyle and 400 IM at last month’s Summer Age Group Championships held at the Mt. SAC Aquatics Center in Walnut, California.

The Sandpipers of Nevada 16-year-old ripped a personal-best 1:50.01 in the 200 free, taking more than two seconds off his previous-best 1:52.71 to rank No. 17 all-time in the U.S. boys 15-16 NAG rankings.

Manteufel swam another historically great time in the 400 IM at 4:21.93, dropping more than four seconds off his previous-best 4:26.12 from April. He now ranks 18th all-time in his age group.

Manteufel also triumphed in the 200 breast (2:21.83) while adding runner-up finishes in the 100 free (51.87) and 200 IM (2:08.88). He knocked more than four seconds off his previous-best 200 breast time of 2:26.01 from last October.

Sandpipers 17-year-old Luke Ellis couldn’t outduel Manteufel in the 200 free with his personal-best 1:50.70, but he still picked up four individual victories to go along with eight lifetime bests. The Indiana commit (’25) collected wins in the 100 back (57.40), 200 back (2:01.18), 200 fly (2:01.37), and 200 IM (2:04.35). Ellis dipped under his previous-best 200 back time of 2:01.35 from last July while demolishing his best 100 back time of 59.48 from last January. In the 200 fly, he crushed his lifetime best by more than three seconds.

Sandpipers 15-year-old Allen Gyang earned the 100 free victory in 51.30 ahead of Manteufel’s 51.87. He sliced .17 seconds off his previous-best 51.47 from May. Gyang threw down three more personal bests in the 100 fly (55.82), 50 free (23.52), and 200 free (1:52.70), dropping almost a second in the 100 fly off his previous-best 56.60 from April.

Girls Recap

Aquazot Swim Club 11-year-old Lyric Radke showed off her versatility with wins in the 50 fly (30.55) and 200 IM (2:35.09) to go along with a runner-up finish in the 100 free (1:02.67) and 3rd-place effort in the 100 back (1:11.75). She dropped almost a second in the 50 fly and almost two seconds in the 200 IM off her previous bests from May.

Aquazot Swim Club 12-year-old Taylor Jones claimed the 100 free crown ahead of Radke in 1:02.31, within a second of her personal-best 1:01.62 from earlier in July. She also posted a huge 11-second drop in the 400 free (4:41.98) and added two more victories in the 200 free (2:14.11) and 100 fly (1:09.01).

The 15-and-older 400 free turned out to be a thrilling battle between Sandpipers of Nevada teammates Lucy Warnick (4:24.52) and Riley Christensen (4:24.32). Warnick, an 18-year-old BYU commit (’24), dropped more than 10 seconds off her previous-best 4:35.12 from last April, but Christensen escaped with the title by a couple tenths. Christensen, 15, knocked a couple seconds off her previous-best 4:26.34 from April. Warnick went on to sweep the 200 IM (2:20.47) and 400 IM (4:53.14) in lifetime bests, dropping one second and three seconds, respectively, off her previous bests from last July.

Aquazot Swim Club 10-year-old Tina Tang kept dropping time in the 50 back and 100 free despite just recently setting lifetime bests the week prior. She clocked a 35.05 in the 50 back, taking a few tenths off her previous best, while adding a personal-best 1:05.73 100 free. Tang was more than half a second quicker than her previous-best 1:06.37 from the week before. She also secured wins in the 50 free (30.57), 100 back (1:17.38), 50 fly (33.52), and 100 fly (1:15.88), not far off her best times.

Brea Aquatics 13-year-old Adalyn Lee registered a slew of noteworthy personal bests. She posted times of 1:06.70 in the 100 back, 2:07.06 in the 200 free, 59.93 in the 100 free, and 4:26.77 in the 400 free. She dropped more than four seconds in the 200 free and almost three seconds in the 400 free.

Sandpipers 15-year-old Emery Vannah registered a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 fly (1:02.60) and 100 back (1:06.56). She dropped more than a second off her previous-best 100 fly time of 1:03.72 from June, but came up just short of the title behind rising UCSD sophomore Asia Kozan (1:02.24). Vannah knocked almost a second off her best time in the 100 back, but still wound up about half a second behind Rose Bowl Aquatics Aly Yokoyama (1:06.03).
