Saint Francis Set to Compete at NEC Championships

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team is set to compete at the Northeast Conference Championships this week. The meet begins on Wednesday, February 24 and runs throughSaturday, February 27. The meet is being hosted in Cambridge, Mass. by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Red Flash finished the season with an 8-7 record in team meets. SFU finished with a winning record for the fourth straight year.

Sophomore Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen), a four-time NEC Swimmer of the Week, holds Top 10 times in the conference in five events. Lafferty ranks fourth in the NEC with a time of 23.97 in the 50 Freestyle. She also holds the seventh-best time in the 100 Freestyle, with a pace of 52.26. The sophomore owns a time of 1:53.27 in the 200 Freestyle to rank seventh in the league.

Lafferty has the conference’s sixth-best time in the 500 Freestyle at 5:05.51 and the 10th-best pace in the 100 Butterfly at 59.08.

Fellow sophomore Emma Karell (Norrtlje, Sweden/Tby Swim Club) is among the Top 10 times in the NEC in four different events. She has the sixth-best times in the 1000 Freestyle (10:43.17) and 200 Breaststroke (2:25.88). She is also seventh in the 400 IM (4:37.86) and ninth in the 200 Butterfly (2:10.95).

Senior Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) holds the league’s fifth-best time in the 100 Breaststroke, with a pace of 1:05.24, while freshman Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) has the ninth-ranked time in that event at 1:07.99. Rogers is also ninth in the conference in the 100 Butterfly, with a time of 59.00.

In the 200-yard Breaststroke, sophomore Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic) owns a time of 2:27.81, good for the ninth-ranked time in the conference.

Lafferty, Rogers, junior Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) and sophomore Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) has the Red Flash’s top times in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:37.64) and 400-yard Medley Relay (4:01.34).

In the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, Karell, Lafferty, Reilly and Rogers own a time of 3:35.60. Karell, Lafferty, Reilly and Megan Reilly(Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) are the top combination in the 800 Freestyle Relay, with a time of 7:58.08.

Lafferty, Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair), Rogers and junior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) have teamed up for SFU’s top time this year in the 200 Medley Relay, with a pace of 1:47.62.
