The Gator Swim Club’s Ryan Lochte will swim out the 100 fly semifinal tonight, meaning that he is going to have a triple in the Saturday evening session. He will begin the session with the 200 back, then after a women’s race will move into his 200 IM final, and then another women’s race and he will swim this 100 fly semifinal.
The question that will be asked is “why is he swimming through this 100 fly when he scratched the 100 back,” and the answer is timing. With the 100 back, even though it was the end of his session, it wasn’t the end of his meet. Once he wraps that 200 IM, he won’t have another event to worry about, and if we’re operating on the assumption that he’s not fully tapered for this meet, then it isn’t going to hurt his training to throw another two races at the end. That would be his best opportunity to make the medley relay, because his backstroke prelims swim wasn’t even close-to-good-enough to make that spot.
He will come into the semi’s as the 6th seed, so there’s no guarantees that at the end of that session he’ll be able to push through to the finals, but it would be one heck of a story if he did.
Alright let’s say the Lochte does swim the final of the 100 fly and makes the team. What do you think he will swim it in London?
Probably just in the relay.
Lochte wants to beat Phelps in as many events as possible.
Puhleese.
Lochte wants to get as many medals as he can.
Lochte has seen the USD100 millions that Phelps has made by winning 8 golds.
if he wins the 200bk/200im and drops a 51 100 fly could be the greatest single day of racing ever.
Going to be very difficult to beat Phelps after the 2back. I would be surprised to see 52 low again.
Lochte went a 52 low at indianapolis this year. i’d be surprised to not see a 51. if not tonight, definitely tomorrow assuming he makes finals
I don’t think it would be too much of a shocker if Lochte beats Phelps even after the 200 Back. I think either way, Phelps or Lochte swimming a double their 2nd swim is not very effected. These athletes are in great shape, and especially a 200 IM which is only a 50 of each stroke. I’m not saying it is easy, but if you were to do a double and have a second event to swim, it would be the 200 IM over any other race in my opinion.
Also, looks like Lochte has strongly improved his breastroke and I’m concerned that is Phelps’ weakest stroke in comparing the two swimmers. Phelps is really going to have to take… Read more »
