Yes yes smoking is a no no. But it so very French of him.

On a real note, I would assume he uses nicotine replacement while training, and allows himself the bad habit in periods such as just after an Oly cycle. This is fairly common among elite athletes. Chew is nearly ubiquitous amongst that demographic. Swimmers are more an exception to this rule, although I know several London 12ers who wouldn’t be caught dead without a tin.

Not a good habit to pick up youngsters! Once you start on nicotine, it is yours for life. So think twice, or thrice, and if this were a real word, frice times. Thank me later

Maybe if he didn’t smoke he would have won at the olympics. Small details can make a huge difference.

It’s not the size of the nail, but how hard you’re hittin it. Ryan Lochte is definitely a hard hitter 😉

So true. A buddy of mine was vacationing in Bali w his wife shortly after London12. They thought they had spent enough to have the resort to themselves, but were surprised by a uniquely handsome couple at the bar, who stuck around to socialize all night and for the next couple days as well. The guy was tall and thin, and smoked Marlboro reds by the pack. Camille of course. The girl, described by my buddys wife as “perfect, angelic,” ended up being Valerie Begue, aka Miss France. Camille is the Beckham/Brady of swimming.

Reds?! The guy smoked reds by the pack? Taking a page out of Popov’s book I see.

imagine how fast they would be if they didn’t smoke. Camille should know better though, it’s 2013 and no small secret that smoking sucks for athletic performance
