Ragen Engel Breaks 50 Free Pool Record, Leads Akron In Win Over Xavier

The women of Akron University dominated the Xavier University team on Friday night, winning 170-72 in a meet that featured some very off events, including 150s of some strokes.

The highest scorer for the Zips was freshman Sadie Fazekas, who won three individual events: the 50 back (26.86), the 100 IM (59.81), and the 100 free (53.49).

Her fellow freshman Ragen Engel broke the pool record at the O’Conner Sports Complex at Xavier University with a blazing 23.63 in the 50 free. Other Zip freshmen wins included Emma King‘s 8:26.57 in the 800 free and Madison Myers‘s 1:54.89 in the 200.

The team grabbed another pool record in the only relay of the night, the 200 free relay. Susan Franz, Engel, Ashley Niznik, and Hannah Raspopovich took down the old mark with a 1:36.35.

Seniors Raspopovich, Erin Seiler, and Niznik grabbed a collective four individual wins for the Zips. Raspopovich won the 50 breast in 30.11, Niznik took first place in the 150 back in 1:32.52, and Seiler grabbed a pair of wins in the 50 fly (26.00) and the 150 fly (1:31.83).

Other wins for Akron came in the 400 free (Kara Kaulius: 4:13.12) and the 150 breast (Kristen Vargas: 1:45.59).
