RACE VIDEO: Touchout of .01 for Britain-based 14-year-old in yards debut at Pleasant Prairie Sectional

Who doesn’t love a good race? Here’s a video submitted to SwimSwam of one of the tightest finishes possible, and it comes with an interesting backstory. 14-year-old Emma Cain is an American swimmer living in the United Kingdom. She flew to the states last week to compete in her first-ever short-course yards meet at the Sectional in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

Competing for Aspen Swim Club out of Colorado, Cain went 2:14.93, running down the field over the final 50 to pick up the touchout win by just .01. The race video is above, and Cain is the swimmer third from the top in the pink cap.

Cain was just 2:36.45 in long course less than a month ago, so a 2:14.93 should definitely stand as a solid swim for her at this point.

Just to clear the nationality debate up – Emma Cain Intends to represent Britain internationally, starting in a few months from now at European Juniors (she won the British Junior 400IM title this evening in 4.51… a 7 second personal best).

Softer cuts and easier 2nd swims. I spoke to a Coach from out West who was there, and he was very honest in saying that his kids got a lot more second swims than they would have in their section.

I thought she was a Brit (competed at the 2012 British Trails) living in the USA now.
