Pure Sprinter Jeremy Graunke Commits to Arizona State (2021)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

The Arizona State Sun Devils have added another sprinter to their men’s recruiting class of 2021, with Jeremy Graunke the latest to announce a verbal commitment.

Graunke trains with the Rio Salado Swim Club and Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, Arizona, which means he’ll have only about a 10 mile move to his new home at Arizona State.

Graunke was the Arizona Division II (out of 3) High School State Championship runner-up in the 50 free in the fall as a junior. His 20.51 in the 50 free at the Arizona Senior Open Championships (club meet) placed him 2nd behind only his club teammate Christian Osterndorf, an uncommitted junior who swam 20.42.

Best Times in yards:

  • 50 free – 20.51
  • 100 free – 46.62
  • 200 free – 1:45.41
  • 100 back – 54.25
  • 100 fly – 50.40

Right now, Graunke’s strength is as a flat-out sprinter, so he’ll need to improve his endurance of versatility to reach his full potential for the Sun Devils. His next-best events are the 100 free and 100 fly, but he’s got the height to develop at the next level.

Also in the class is sprinter Lio Perez (20.40/44.53, with a 47.97 fly kicker) and 200 butterflier/IMer Ethan Hansen of Ireland. Hansen is a tailor-made Bowman recruit (his best events, the 200 fly and IMs, are two events where Bowman has made his living coaching some of the world’s best). Arizona State has also done very well in recruiting and developing sprinters recently as well, including a 3rd-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships from their 200 free relay and 2nd-place finish from their 400 free relay.

Graunke trains with the Rio Salado Swim Club, where he’s part of a very good training group that includes NC State commit Luke Miller (2020), 55-second breaststroker Nathan Kempiak (uncommitted – 2021) and the aforementioned Ostendorf (uncommitted – 2021).

NC State commit Luke Miller is not from Arizona or on Rio Salado swim club. Maybe a different Luke Miller.
