Phelps Turns Down Chippendales For ASU Coaching Job (Video Interview)

In between some big-time exhibition swims at the Arizona State – Arizona dual meet, Olympic champion Michael Phelps found time to chat with SwimSwam about his foray into coaching with the Arizona State Sun Devils.

After this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio, Phelps says he plans to join his longtime coach Bob Bowman‘s staff in Tempe, helping coach the Pac-12 swimming program.

You can check out the interview above to hear Phelps’ thoughts on his future in coaching, plus his take on the job offer he got from the Chippendales after appearing in the ASU “Curtain of Distraction.”

 

Phelps drew a huge crowd in Tempe, swimming in what he would call the last short course yards races of his career. Phelps has typically focused more on long course meters, and plans to retire for good after this summer’s Olympic Trials and Olympic Games.
