Penn State Receives Commitment From Backstroker Anna Redican

Anna Redican, a current high school senior from Reston, Virginia, has committed to swim for Division I Pennsylvania State University. Redican will graduate from South Lakes High School in spring 2020 and join the Lions’ class of 2024.

Redican currently swims for Machine Aquatics and for her high school at South Lakes. Redican has been on the NISCA Girls High School Swimming All-American team and the Virginia High School League Class 6A All-State team for 3 years. At the VHSL Class 6A State Championships, Redican has placed 2nd (2017-2018) and 3rd (2019-2020) in the 100 backstroke and is a 200 freestyle finalist.

The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed 6th in the in the 100 LCM backstroke (1:06.71) at the Eastern Senior Zone Championships. Redican is also a Sectional and Spring Junior National Championships qualifier.

This year at the 2020 Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships with the Lions, Redican would have missed scoring finals by less than half a second in both the 100 and 200 backstroke with her current best times.

  • 50 freestyle – 24.89
  • 100 freestyle – 52.66
  • 200 freestyle – 1:51.30
  • 500 freestyle – 5:02.01
  • 100 backstroke – 55.25
  • 200 backstroke – 2:00.27
  • 100 butterfly – 57.07

This year at the Big Ten Championships, the Lions placed 8th as a team. In total, they scored 101.5 points in the backstroke events at the Big Ten Championships, which was better than any other two-event stroke group

Redican will begin her swimming career at Penn State fall 2020.
