The Paraguayan Aquatic Sports Federation released the roster for their 2014 South American Championships team which includes a total of 10 swimmers who will compete at the meet in Argentina next weekend.
Out of those 10 there are a total five men and five women including national records holders Benjamin Hockin, Maximiliano Abreu, Matias Lopez, and Charles Hockin. The only male who is not a national record holder in the pool will be Carlos Orihuela, the son of the federation’s president.
On the women’s side national record holders Sofia Lopez, Sophia Ortiz, and Karen Riveros will be competing along with Maria Arrua who also holds national recorda, but in the 4×100 and 4x200m freestyle relays.
At the last South American Championships which were held in Brazil during March of 2012, Paraguay came home with three medals including one gold. Benjamin Hockin who will be returning was the lone individual medallist taking home a gold in the 200m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m fly.
The men all pulled together to take silver in the 4x100m medley relay as well, losing to Brazil by approximately four seconds while taking down Colombia.
The women didn’t win any medals at the 2012 South American Championships, however there’s a possibility that a few of the swimmers could sneak onto the podium this year to change that. Karen Riveros could get onto the podium in the 100m freestyle. Her current national records stands at 57.71 from 2013, in 2012, it took a 57.25 to medal.
The Paraguyan Aquatic Sports Federation also released rosters for several other competitions throughout the season which feature South American swimmers, all of which can be found here.
