USA Swimming has added another name to its banned-for-life list, with a total of now 66 individuals Permanently Suspended or Ineligble for USA Swimming membership.
Former Rustin (Pennsylvania) High School coach Kenneth Fuller was arrested in May on charges of “institutional sexual assault, and corruption of a minor”.
Little progress has been made in Fuller’s legal prosecution yet, but on Friday a hearing was held on the motion that Fuller’s $250,000 bond be revoked. The latest allegation is that Fuller approached the alleged victim and tried to convince her to recant her story. The judge did not immediately rule, but set a full hearing for September 28th.
The two official reasons for Fuller’s banishment are listed below:
304.3.18 Any other material and intentional act, conduct or omission not provided for above, which is detrimental to the image or reputation of USA Swimming, a LSC or the sport of swimming.
304.3.6 Conviction of, imposition of a deferred sentence for, or any plea of guilty or no contest at any time, past or present, or the existence of any pending charges, for (i) any felony, (ii) any offense involving use, possession, distribution or intent to distribute illegal drugs or substances, (iii) any crime involving sexual misconduct, or (iv) any criminal offense against a minor.
And as more people come forward from the past the number will be 100 much quicker than anyone would like.
66? Eesh, that’s a scary number.
