Olympic Trials Qualifier Sarah Bernard to Swim for MIT Beginning in 2024-25

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sarah Bernard, a three-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Boston, Massachusetts, will remain close to home to swim and study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology –otherwise known as MIT– beginning next fall.

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology! Thank you to all my coaches, both in Singapore and Boston, for shaping me into the athlete I am today. Roll Tech!!”

Bernard, an American citizen, lived and swam in Singapore for 10 years before moving to Boston. She graduated from Boston University Academy and currently trains under Chris Sheppard at Commonwealth Swimming. She competed in the 200 breast at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis last month, having qualified with 2:31.45 from Sectionals in Ocala, Florida, in May. She also earned PBs in the 100 breast (1:10.74) and 200 IM (2:24.61) at the same meet.

Bernard posted SCY lifetime bests in the 100/200 breast (1:02.36/2:13.48) at Winter Juniors East last December, finaling in both events (23rd/9th).

MIT women finished 5th in the team race at the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships. The Engineers’ Edenna Chen was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:00.79) and won the B final of the 200 breast (2:16.85), while Kate Augustyn placed 5th in the 200 IM and Katherine Yao was 16th in the 400 IM. Bernard’s best times would have scored in the A finals of the 100/200 breast and 400 IM at Division III Nationals.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 breast – 2:13.48
  • 100 breast – 1:02.36
  • 400 IM – 4:21.95
  • 200 IM – 2:07.61
  • 500 free – 4:54.52
  • 200 free – 1:54.55
