ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the 2022 Ohio Invitational Saturday. At the end of the weekend, the Bobcats took the top spot in the invite with 1,805 points. Wingate followed with 1,088 points, Findlay (526) and Bellarmine (370).

Session two started with the 100-yard fly, where junior Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) placed first with a time of 55.61. Freshman Annmaria Hornyak (Debrecen, Hungary) finished right behind her in 56.48, while freshman Anna McGrath finished third with a time of 57.37.

In the 400 IM, freshman Lauren Hartel (Arlington, Va.) finished first in 4:33.20, while junior Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) finished in 4:33.76 and a second-place finish. Sophomore Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) added a fourth-place finish, touching in with a time of 4:36.75.

The Bobcats then took the top four spots in the 200-yard freestyle, with senior McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) finishing first in 1:52.90, followed by senior Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio) in second with a time of 1:53.30. Hartel placed third in 1:53.94 and McGrath in fourth with a time of 1:54.16.

Ohio continued to thrive in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Ohio finishing in the first five spots. Hornyak finished in first with a time of 1:03.42, followed by sophomore Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) in 1:05.31 and freshman Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio) in third place with a time of 1:5.40. Freshman Alexandra Wayner finished fourth in 1:05.49 and sophomore Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) placed fifth with a time of 1:05.70.

In the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.) placed first in 56.85, while junior Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio) finished third with a time of 57.76. Fortman finished the race in fourth place, touching in with a time of 58.32.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio ‘A’ team of Schrank, Hornyak, Brust and senior Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) finished in first with a time of 1:43.17. The Ohio ‘B’ team of Fortman, Strine, junior Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) and Grau finished second with a time of 1:47.00.

In the evening session, the 200-yard freestyle relay was led by the Ohio ‘A’ team of Grau, Fortman, Dunigan and junior Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) who placed first with a time of 1:35.47.

Hartel took first in the 500 free with a time of 5:00.75. McGrath finished second in 5:02.91, followed by Fortman (5:03.50) and McKee (5:05.33).

Grau was back in the 200-yard IM, picking up a first-place finish with a time of 2:04.17, while Hornyak (2:04.36) finished second, followed by Brust (2:04.76) and Wayner (2:09.04) in third and fourth, respectively.

Grau would go on to pick up yet another victory, this time in the 50 free, finishing with a time of 23.69. Dunigan placed third overall with a time of 24.09.

In the final event of the evening, the Ohio ‘A’ team of Schrank, Hornyak, Brust and Grau finished the 400-yard medley relay in first place with a time of 3:48.21.

In the 1-meter dive event that took place earlier this morning, senior Halli Siwik (Fishers, Ind.) took the top spot again with 256.05 points. Senior Sienna Breton (Cheshire, Conn.) placed second with a score of 239.65, while junior Jordyn Miller (Latrobe, Pa.) finished fourth with a score of 224.55. Sophomore Grace Matocha (Magnolia, Texas) finished fifth with a score of 223.50.

Up next, the Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 29 when they host Miami. Meet time is set for 11 a.m. at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.

Athens, Ohio—-The No. 8 Wingate University men’s swimming team won this weekend’s Ohio Invitational at the OU Aquatic Center, adding two Saturday night victories to its total. The No. 6 Bulldog women finished second to the host OU Bobcats. NCAA Division I newcomer Bellarmine and NCAA Division II foe Findlay also competed in the two-day event.

Ohio Invitational notes                                                          

– The Bulldogs started Saturday evening with a victory in the men’s 200 Freestyle Relay (1:23.54)
– Team members included seniors Slava Ohnov and Marcel Snitko, sophomore Alex Smyre and freshman Ney Chagas Filho
– Reigning SAC Swimmer of the Week Miguel Marcos won the men’s 500 Freestyle (4:32.99)
– Marcos also finished second in the men’s 200 Individual Medley (1:53.43)
– Ohnov took second in the men’s 50 Freestyle (21.00) and swam the anchor leg as the ‘Dogs claimed second in the 400 Medley Relay (3:23.38)
– Sophomore Kelsea Munro finished second in the women’s 50 Freestyle (23.97)
– Munro collected two relay silver medals as well
– She swam the first leg on the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:36.22) and the anchor leg on the 400 Medley Relay (3:50.23)
– On the men’s team leader board, Wingate topped the charts with 1716.5 points
– Findlay was second in the men’s competition with 1055.5 points, followed by Bellarmine with 744 markers
– Host Ohio University won the women’s competition with 1805 points
– Wingate followed with 1088 points; Findlay (526) and Bellarmine (370) occupied spots three and four
