COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming and diving program will open home competition at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion against Kenyon and Akron Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. The women will compete in a double dual while the men will race head-to-head with Kenyon.
As of Oct. 23, the Ohio State men are ranked No. 8 in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Poll and will compete in a dual against the Division III, No. 2-ranked Kenyon men. The No. 24 Buckeye women will compete in a double dual against No. 19 Akron women and the Division III, No. 3-ranked Kenyon women.
Fan parking for the event can be purchased for five dollars by CampusParc in the Neil Avenue garage.

LAST TIME OUT
The Ohio State swimming and diving program finished victorious in three of four competitions in a three-team, double dual meet against Penn State and Virginia Tech Nov. 1-2. The Buckeyes swept Big Ten opponent, Penn State with the women outscoring the Nittany Lions 198-155, while the Ohio State men downed the Penn State men 193.50-158.50. The Buckeye women completed their perfect weekend with a commanding 247-106 victory over the Hokie women while the men dropped the meet to Virginia Tech, 185-168.
On the weekend, the Ohio State women picked up seven first-place finishes, led by double winner, Kathrin Demler who finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:01.08) and the 200 IM (2:02.98). Molly Kowal touched first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:00.91) while Hannah Gresser and Katie Trace added to the first-place finishes for the Buckeyes in the 100 breaststroke and 400 IM, respectively. The 400 free relay team of Taylor Petrak, Lucija Jurkovic-Perisa, Kristen Romano and Freya Rayner swam to victory with a time of 3:21.99. On the 3-meter board, Mackenzie Crawford took first with a score of 325.30.
On the men’s side, Jason Mathews led the Buckeyes with two wins on the weekend in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and set a pool record in the 200 breast with a time of 1:59.58. Three other Buckeyes recorded first place finishes, including divers Jacob Fielding and Jacob Siler on the 3-meter and 1-meter board, respectively. Carson Burt picked up the final Ohio State win in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:26.67.
SCOUTING KENYON
The Kenyon Lords put up impressive results to close out the 2018-19 season as the men finished third at the NCAA Championships while the women were edged for a second place finish for the national title.
The Kenyon men are 2-0 this season with a commanding 198-96 win over Xavier University and a victory over Division III defending national champions Denison, 167.5-132.5. Senior Connor Rumpit led the charge against the Division I Xavier Musketeers with two individual events wins in the 500 freestyle (4:36.90) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:34.02). In the title rematch against Denison, junior David Finch notched four event wins, including the 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle relay.
The Lords women are 1-1 to open the season as they downed Xavier 154-139 but slipped to Denison 195-105. Against Xavier, the women tallied seven event wins and eight runner-up spots in the victory. Notably, sophomore Myra Miller had a perfect outing with wins on the 1-meter board (152.10) and the 3-meter board (181.80) and junior Crile Hart leads the team with four total event wins this season in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.
SCOUTING AKRON
The Akron women are 2-0 this season in head-to-head competition including a victory over Miami University of Ohio and the University of Toledo. The Zips ranked in the Top 25 nationally as of Oct. 23 and it marks their third appearance all-time in the CSCAA Poll and the highest ranking ever in program history at No. 19.
The women are led by junior Paulina Nogaj who currently holds Top 10 times in the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly and Top 20 times in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle. Four of Akron’s relays currently rank among the Top 10 nationally including the 200 freestyle relay team who put up a time of 1:31.07, good for fourth in the nation.
Against Miami of Ohio, Akron came out on top in the 1-meter diving event, with three divers finishing in the top four. Junior Andrea Bugariu placed first with a score of 265.35. In the Zips’ 200-102 victory over Toledo, the Akron women notched 11 first-place finishes with a sweep in the 800 freestyle.
