Rapidly-improving Caleb Tuckerman Verbally Commits to Kentucky for 2020-21

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Hudson, Ohio’s Caleb Tuckerman has announced his intention to swim for the University of Kentucky in the fall of 2020. He will join CJ Layne and Zane Rosely in the class of 2024.

“I was looking for a college with great academics and a swim program that would be challenging and take me to the next level and the University of Kentucky checks all the boxes. The campus is beautiful, has outstanding facilities and the swim team and coaches have created a culture of excellence. I want to thank my Family and Coaches for all their support over the years and a very special thanks to Coach Matt Davis for everything he has done for me, in and out of the water, to make all this possible. GoCats!”

Tuckerman is a senior at Hudson High School; he swims club with Hudson Explorer Aquatic Team. At the 2019 OHSAA Division 1 State Championships last February, he placed 8th in the 500 free (4:40.09) and 11th in the 200 free (1:42.20) and swam legs on Hudson’s 200 free and 400 free relays (21.70 split and 47.02 leadoff). He competed in the 100/200/500 free, 50/200 breast, and 200 IM at NCSA Spring Championship and finished 30th in the 500. This summer, he improved his lifetime bests in the LCM 50 free (24.90), 100 free (53.61), 200 free (1:56.41), 400 free (4:09.18), and 200 IM (2:10.01) at Geneva Futures. He placed 16th in the 200 free, 15th in the 400 free, and 13th in the 200 IM. Year-over-year, he dropped 1.2 seconds in the 50 free, 3.2 seconds in the 100 free, 3.3 seconds in the 200 free, 7 seconds in the 400 free, and 3 seconds in the 200 IM.

Tuckerman is still outside scoring range at the SEC conference level but if he keeps improving like he did over the summer, he will get there quickly. To score at 2019 SECs it took 43.82 in the 100 free, 1:36.25 in the 200 free, 4:21.37 in the 500 free, and 1:46.47 in the 200 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 500 free – 4:33.10
  • 200 free – 1:41.46
  • 100 free – 46.77
  • 200 breast – 2:12.76
