Ohio swimming and diving finished the senior day with a 169.5 – 130.5 win over Bowling Green Saturday (Jan. 27). The Bobcats recorded wins in 11 of the 16 events.
Ohio Swimming
The Bobcats kicked off Senior Day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The ‘A’ team consisting of senior Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.), sophomore Claire Mikesell (Clearfield, Pa.), junior Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis), and sophomore Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.) finished with a time of 1:44.88.
In the second event of the afternoon, the Bobcats went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free with freshman Hannah Schlegel(Birdsboro, Pa.) posting a time of 10:16.22, junior Ana Henderson (Danville, Calif.) posting a time of 10:27.33, and freshman Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.) posting a time of 10:27.59.
Ohio added wins in the next three events with a time of 1:52.09 from Zimcosky in the 200 free, a time of 57.81 from Van Lanen in the 100 back, and a time of 1:04.52 from sophomore Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland) in the 100 breaststroke.
In the 200 fly, freshman Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.) posted a time of 2:06.18 to place second just ahead of sophomore Annie Gosselin (Naperville, Ill.) in third with a time of 2:07.76 and senior Elena Patz (Waunakee, Wis.) in fourth with a time of 2:09.02.
Van Lanen added another win for the ‘Cats in the 50 free with a time of 23.82.
Ohio went 1-2-3 in the 100 free with Zimcoksy clocking in a time of 51.80, Mikesell clocking in a time of 53.22, and junior Lexie White (Waxhaw, N.C.) clocking in a time of 53.68.
Glass finished first for the ‘Cats taking fourth in the 200 back with a final time of 2:06.93.
Lahtinen recorded another win for Ohio with a final time of 2:19.66 in the 200 breaststroke.
Ohio went 1-2-3 again in the 500 free with Schlegel posting a time of 5:04.30, Garrity posting a time of 5:06.74, and Henderson posting a time of 5:23.42.
In the 100 fly, Van Lanen secured first place with a time of 55.90, just ahead of Patz in third with a time of 58.57 and junior Emily Davis (Lexington, Ky.) in fourth with a time of 59.61.
In the 200 IM, Glass placed second with a final time of 2:09.03.
The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay where Ohio’s ‘A’ team of Mikesell, Davis, Schlegel, and Zimcosky placed first with a time of 3:31.21. Ohio’s senior relay team with seniors Lemen, Patz, and Raley and sophomore Katherine Redden (Fort Thomas, Ky.)
Ohio Diving
In the 1-meter dive, junior Nicole Hughes (Cleveland, Ohio) placed fifth with a final score of 232.05 and sophomore Ryleigh Tuck-Macalla (Bay Village, Ohio) placed sixth with a score of 210.83.
Hughes went on to place third in the 3-meter dive with a final score of 250.13. Tuck-Macalla placed sixth with a final score of 207.98.

Ohio Swimming and Diving will prepare for the 2017-18 Mid-American Conference Championships (Feb. 21-24) where the Bobcats host the meet in the Ohio University Aquatic Center.

Four Falcons combined to win five of 14 individual events, as the Bowling Green swimming and diving team fell to Ohio on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27). .The Bobcats won the dual meet 169.5-130.5. BGSU swimmers were competing for the first time since the Zippy Invitational in early December and won three races while taking second place in six. Meanwhile, the divers continued to build on the success they enjoyed at the Buffalo Diving Invitational. Talisa Lemke swept the two diving events, and second place in both was split between Claire Stam and Ashley White. Individual Falcons set four new personal records, as well as a separate season-best time.
Lemke earned the sixth diving sweep of her sophomore season. She captured the one-meter title with a 299.63, outpacing the closest Ohio diver by 67 points. In the three-meter competition, she tallied a 320.63, which was 70 points better than the nearest Bobcat. Ashley White finished second in the three-meter (253.50) and third in the one-meter (235.88), while Claire Stam‘s 248.93 earned second in the three-meter. The trio of divers earned 31 of BGSU’s 130.5 points during the meet.
BGSU swimmers earned their first of three victories of the day during the 200 butterfly. Sarah Hennings finished in 2:04.27 and won by 1.91 seconds. It was her sixth overall victory of the season and third in this event out of seven starts. Later, the Falcons secured the top three spots in the 200 backstroke. Franziska Wohlert touched after 2:05.04 for her third win of the season. Teammates Lauren Sullivanand Maria Galic took second and third, respectively. Freshman Jordan Andrusak captured BGSU’s final win of the day when she took first in the 200 IM (2:06.95). Andrusak led the Falcons with three top-three finishes on Saturday.
Bowling Green ended the meet with 20 individual top-three finishes. Falcon relay teams took second and third place in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
COACH SAYS…
BGSU Swimming and Diving head coach Matt Ense said, “We ran into a team that wanted to win more than us today. It was their Senior Day so they wanted to protect their house, and they came out and won the first five races of the day. This was our first time competing in seven weeks, so it took the first part of the meet to get back to racing mode. We finished the meet strong which is a positive heading into next week against Toledo. Our divers once again did an amazing job taking the top three spots on one meter and top two spots on three meter.”

UP NEXT
Bowling Green concludes the home portion of their schedule with their last dual meet of the 2017-18 season next weekend against the Toledo Rockets. The two-day meet will take place on Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3. The meet will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, and the Falcons will recognize their five seniors on that afternoon during the meet. Following Friday’s Senior Day, BGSU will conclude the meet starting at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bowling Green will return to Athens for the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships beginning on Feb. 21.
