Grace Shinske recorded four first place finishes for the second-straight weekend, while Joe Smith swept the men’s diving competition as the Golden Grizzlies men’s and women’s swimming and diving team defeated Wayne State 187-110, 182-114 respectively Friday night from Matthaei Center Natatorium.
Shinske raced to a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.33), the 200 backstroke (2:03.15), 100 fly (57.34) and 200 medley relay (1:46.35).
In the 1-meter dive Joe Smith placed first with a final score of 332.40, and recorded a score of 294.82 in the 3-meter diving competition.
The women’s team will be back in the pool tomorrow as Oakland hosts Youngstown State at the Oakland Aquatic Center beginning at 1 p.m.

The Wayne State University women’s swim and dive team fell 182-115 to Oakland University in Friday’s season opener at the Matthaei Natatorium.
RELAY RESULTS
-The Warriors took second in the 200-yard medley relay, as junior Emily Marginean (Tecumseh, Ont. / Riverside S.S.), freshman Jia Yi Koh (Subang Jaya, Malaysia), freshman Haley Groteler (West Ottawa, Mich. / West Ottawa) and junior Lezlie Bueno Estrada (Chihuahua, Mexico) finished with a time of 1:48.32. In the 400 free, Koh, Groteler, sophomore Aliza Durack (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) and Bueno Estrada won with a time of 3:33.31.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
-Freshman Emma Von Holtz (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) won the 3-meter diving with a score of 240.30, with sophomore Mia Teifer (Trentron, Mich. / Monroe St. Mary C.C.) in second (233.10). Freshman Amanda Hurchalla (Mt. Clemens, Mich. / Fraser) took fourth with a score of 209.55. In 1-meter diving, Teifer was second (243.67), with Huchalla third (207.00) and Von Holtz fourth (192.37).
-Koh was second in the 100 breast (1:07.14), while Koh and sophomore Kate Svisco (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) went 2-3 in the 200 breast, respectively. Koh came in at 2:23.98, with Svisco taking a time of 2:26.51. Meanwhile, Svisco and freshman Leticia Camilo Lemos went 2-3 in the 200 IM (2:12.75 and 2:13.81, respectively).
– Bueno Estrada was second in the 50 free (24.45), with Groteler third (24.92).
-Groteler was second in the 100 fly (57.52), followed by senior Makayla Myers (Hudsonville, Mich. / Hudsonville) (1:01.47) and junior Tai Furnari (Pleasant Ridge, Mich. / Ferndale) (1:03.04).
-Furnari was third in the 200 fly (2:16.62). In the 100 back, Marginean was third (1:00.66), with senior Meghan Lamb(East China, Mich. / St. Clair) coming in third in the 200-yard free (1:59.79).
-Bueno Estrada was third in the 100 free (53.18), followed by Durack (54.87) and Lamb.
-Junior Ellie Dean (Midland, Mich. / Dow) was second in the 500 free, while junior Hannah Berich (Rochester, Hills, Mich. / Adams) was third (5:35.01).
-Groteler was second in the 100 fly (57.52), followed by Myers (1:01.47) and Furnari (1:03.04).
UP NEXT
The Warriors will travel to GLIAC opponent Ashland on Nov. 3 for a tri-meeting, facing the Eagles as well as Tiiffin University. The event is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
