Erlanger, Kentucky, March 3, 2015 The Northern Kentucky Clippers are pleased to announce that after conducting a national search, we have selected a new Head Coach to lead the organization and continue the tradition of swimming excellence into the future. Norm Wright will be joining the organization in mid-April. Norm was most recently the Head Coach for the Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club (SMAC) in Virginia, and also Director of Competitive Swimming and Aquatics at the Waynesboro Family YMCA. Under his leadership, SMAC has grown to become a USA Swimming Silver Medal Club. Prior to joining SMAC, Norm coached at Georgetown University and The FISH with US Olympic Team Coach Ray Benecki.
“Growing up in Dayton, OH, I was familiar with the Clippers and saw the team often at meets”, Wright said. “When the opportunity to lead the team came up, it was too good of an opportunity to pass on and I am excited to lead a team with such a great reputation, experienced staff, and dedicated swimmers.”
Norm will be replacing Jason Roberts who led the organization for 15 years and is now coaching part time as he is pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors. “I am excited to see where Coach Norm will take our team,” Roberts said. “Based upon his past coaching accomplishments, I think he will continue to lead the Clippers on the upward performance path we have established.”
One of the attributes that attracted Norm to the Clippers was the “family” feel of the organization. Be on the lookout for future opportunities to introduce Norm to the “family”. Plans are being developed to host a reception for parents and swimmers to meet Norm, as well as a separate meeting for parents of swimmers in the National Group to meet their new lead coach.
