David Marsh, CEO of SwimMAC Carolina, emailed us the above picture today. On the right, conveniently labeled by the name on his cap, is SwimMAC Carolina’s Nick Thoman: an Olympic gold medalist and World Record holder in the 10o short course meter backstroke.
Perhaps less recognizable to many readers of this site is the man in the black cap above him. That is 5-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson.
Johnson, originally from El Cajon, California, was a high school swimmer, diver, and water polo player at Granite Hills High, so he’s certainly very comfortable in the pool.
Johnson currently makes his home-base in Charlotte, which is one of NASCAR’s hubs, and is a frequent visitor to the pool.
Johnson finished 4th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Kansas, behind winner Joey Logano.
I swam next to James Haycraft today. It was equally as epic if not more.
