The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team defeated Central Connecticut State, 206-144, at the Jack Suydam Natatorium on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27-28. The Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season.

Senior Liza Baykova broke the pool record when she placed first in the 100 free with a time of 51.28, while she then set it again when she posted a time of 51.13 when she led off the 400 free relay as the Wildcats won the event. The 200 medley relay team of freshman Melissa Dingle, sophomore Milana Evsten, freshman Paige Hillis and Baykova set the pool record with a time of 1:45.80.

UP NEXT:

  • The Wildcats will travel to Kingston, R.I., to take on Rhode Island on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11:00 a.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior Baykova won the 200 free with a time of 1:54.72, while Dingle placed first in the 100 back with a time of 58:17.
  • Senior Hailee Miller won the one-meter diving event with a score of 231.50.
  • Baykova then placed first in the 50 free (24:32) and sophomore Corinne Carbone won the 200 IM (2:09.81).
  • The 200 medley relay team of Dingle, Evston, Hillis and Baykova placed first with a pool record time of 1:45.80.
  • Carbone won her second event of the meet with a time of 4:33.41 in the 400 IM.
  • Baykova then broke the pool record with a time of 51.28 to win her second event.
  • Sophomore Allison Stefanelli took the three-meter diving event with a score of 243.35.
  • The Wildcats concluded the meet as the 400 free relay team of Baykova, junior Brittany Moffatt, graduate student Emily Giambastini and Carbone with a time of 3:35.54. Baykova broke the pool record again with a time of 51.13 as she led off the relay.

The Central Connecticut women’s swimming and diving team competed in a two-day dual meet vs. the University of New Hampshire over the weekend, dropping a 206-144 decision to the visiting Wildcats.

The Blue Devils opened Saturday’s second day with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.  Junior Kaitlyn Troy, senior Maddy Garber, sophomore Valentina Gomez and senior Lauren Czulewiczfinished with a time of 1:47.22.

Sophomore Gracie Regan was fourth in the 400 yard individual medley in a time of 4:44.64 while classmate Keelin Kendall was fifth in 4:51.03.

Czulewicz finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 54.38.  Troy was fourth in 55.92 and sophomore Grace Fredricks was sixth in 57.88.

Junior Aidan Devers won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.10.  Freshman Erin Brown was fifth in a time of 2:21.08 and sophomore Ivy Milne was sixth in 2:16.14.

Sophomore Kirsten Bednarz finished third in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 199.60.

Gomez posted a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.73.  Junior Victoria Poole was fifth in 1:02.75 and senior Luna Milne was sixth in 1:05.22.

Devers picked up her second win of the day, this time in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.75.  Regan was fourth in 5:19.92.

Garber picked up a big win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.84.  Kendall was fifth in 2:33.77 and Grace Fredricks was sixth in 2:39.26.

The Blue Devils posted second and fourth place finishes in the 400 freestyle relay to end the meet.

Central is back in action next weekend on the road at Wagner, in a meet that will also include Bryant.
