Navy Gets Verbals From Cole Cooper And Ashley Boddiford

Virginia-based Cole Cooper and Florida-based Ashley Beddiford have given their verbal commitments to join Navy Swimming next season.

Cooper is primarily a fly/freestyler from Patriot High School, and competes for Nation’s Capital Swim Club. Boddiford attends Hagerty High School and is a member of the Blue Dolphins.

Cole Cooper

Cooper’s time in the 100 fly is just a few tenths short of what it took to make the championship final at the 2016 Patriot League Championships, so he could make the final as a freshman with marginal improvements. In the 200 fly, however, he’s already right at the cutoff line of what it took to get 8th.

100 Free 46.93

200 Fly 1:49.99
200 IM 1:56.07

When Cooper arrives on campus, he’ll make a big difference for the team since all of their 200 butterfly scorers from last season’s conference meet, Jonathan Debaugh, Ryan Bailey, and Hayes McCullagh, will be gone.

He will, however, have Zachary Piedt as a training partner. Piedt finished 9th in the 100 fly at the Patriot League meet last season.

Ashley Boddiford

Boddiford’s 200 IM and 200 back times are already good enough for a top 8 finish at the Patriot League Championships. Her time in the 100 back is about a half second away from top 8 potential, but she’s already good enough to score there too.

At Navy, Boddiford will team up with backstrokers Ally Warnimont and Elizabeth Graeff, who both placed in the top 8 at conference last season.

As far as IM training goes, she’ll be with Patriot League champion Lauren Barber, who set a new Patriot League Record of 1:57.89 en route to her event title last season. Additionally, Casey Lawson and Kaitlin O’Reilly were also top 8 scorers in the 200 IM.
