NAU’s Victoria Knapp Sweeps Springboard Events At Lumberjack Diving Invite

DAY 1

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Jan. 30, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women’s diving team completed the first day of the Lumberjack Diving Invite, competing on the 3-meter board.

“Today was fantastic,” head diving coach Nikki Kelsey said. “Having four divers in the top-five and Vic with the win is awesome. All six of them did a great job today. I’m very pleased with all of them and looking forward to the next couple of days.”

Each diver completed six dives, starting with the preliminary round. Victoria Knapp took the top spot with a score of 318.00, followed by Mackenna Stocker in second with 305.10. Margaret Wesche placed fourth with 290.70, while Grace Wesche finished sixth with 286.25. The top eight divers advanced to the finals, while those placing ninth through 16th competed in a consolation round.

Kendall Marquez narrowly missed a finals spot, taking ninth with a respectable 266.25. Catalina Devia, competing in her first 3-meter event of the year, scored 252.70 in the preliminaries to place 12th.

Knapp continued to dominate in the finals, scoring 319.45 to maintain her first-place position. Grace Wesche moved up to second after scoring 316.70, while Margaret Wesche placed third with 297.50. Stocker finished fifth with 290.30.

DAY 2

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Jan. 31, 2025) – The Northern Arizona women’s diving team enjoyed another successful day at the pool, competing in the 1-meter event. The preliminary round featured 23 divers, with the top eight advancing to the finals. Divers who finished between ninth and 16th moved on to the consolation round.

“To have another four of our divers finish in the top five was great,” head diving coach Nikki Kelsey said. “I was very proud of the way everyone performed. I’m happy to see Victoria get another win and have Grace right on her heels by less than a point. Looking forward to them competing on platform tomorrow and seeing what they can do – we should have a good showing.”

Senior Victoria Knapp repeated her success from yesterday, finishing first in the preliminary round with a score of 283.25. She carried that momentum into the finals, scoring 305.00 for back-to-back first-place finishes.

Grace Wesche secured sixth place in the prelims with a score of 274.55. She surged to second place in the final with an impressive 304.20.

Completing a podium sweep for the Lumberjacks, Mackenna Stocker scored 278.20 in the prelims before earning a 291.40 in the finals for third place.

Margaret Wesche placed fifth with a final score of 282.15 after posting a 281.50 in the prelims.

Catalina Devia finished second in the consolation final with a score of 268.10, improving from her preliminary score of 217.10, which placed her 13th.

Kendall Marquez placed 10th in the preliminary round with a score of 251.65. She followed up with a 258.60 in the consolation round, earning third place.

The day concluded with a team event, where three divers per team completed two dives each. The Northern Arizona “B” team – featuring Knapp, Devia, and Marquez – secured first place with a team score of 292.25. They were followed by the NAU “A” team, consisting of both the Wesche sisters and Stocker, who finished with a score of 272.90.

Tomorrow marks the final day of the Lumberjack Diving Invite, where the divers will compete on platform. The action begins at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Standard time. Following the conclusion of the dive meet, the Northern Arizona swimmers will take on New Mexico for their senior day meet at 11:00 a.m. MST.

DAY 3

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 1, 2025) – It was an emotional day at the Wall Aquatic Center as the Lumberjacks celebrated eight graduating seniors. Casey CraffeyFrancesca CriscioneJamie DellwardtVictoria KnappBena KoehnRachael LytleKendall Marquez, and Helena Robla-Alvarez were recognized in front of teammates, family, and friends for their athletic and academic achievements during their careers at Northern Arizona.

The day began with the conclusion of the Lumberjack Invite, where the divers competed on the platform. Of the 22 divers who entered, the top eight advanced to the finals, while those who placed between ninth and 16th moved on to the consolation round.

In the preliminary round, Catalina Devia was the highest-finishing Lumberjack, scoring 243.90 for second place. She went on to score 249.00 in the final round to maintain her second-place position.

Mackenna Stocker followed closely in the prelims with a score of 242.65 for third. In the finals, she finished in fourth place with 236.55.

Grace Wesche posted a preliminary score of 236.00, placing her sixth. In the finals, she improved to fifth with a 234.70.

Margaret Wesche initially placed ninth in the preliminary round with 229.55. However, she advanced to the finals and ultimately secured third place with a score of 240.30.

Knapp finished 10th in the preliminary round with 226.90 and later posted 227.90 in the consolation round, earning second place.

Marquez placed 12th in the prelims with a score of 202.10 and improved to fourth in the consolation round with 205.45.

“My seniors made me emotional because it’s the last time they’re going to dive in this pool, which was awesome,” head diving coach Nikki Kelsey said. “Vic made her first career NCAA qualifying score on platform today which was fantastic to see. Kendall also had her personal best meet up there, and Freshman Catalina came second, so we’re just really excited. It was just a great meet for all of them, but it was really exciting to see the seniors finish on a high note and see our freshmen do such a great job on platform.”

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – San Diego State’s Valentina Lopez Arevalo continued her stellar season with a victory in platform competition on Saturday to lead the Aztecs during the final event of the Lumberjack Diving Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona University.

With her triumph, Lopez Arevalo captured the event title at the same meet for the fourth consecutive year, giving her 11 individual crowns this season.

Participating in her signature event, Lopez Arevalo compiled a winning total of 314.80 points in the final round, shattering an NCAA zone qualifying mark (225.00) and easily outpacing the second-place competitor Catalina Devia of host NAU (246.90). The SDSU senior maintained her lofty perch after finishing atop the preliminary standings with a score of 298.95.

Along with Lopez Arevalo’s success, the Aztecs advanced two additional divers to the platform finals on Saturday at Wall Aquatic Center.

Taylor Konopacke finished seventh with a final-round tally of 230.60, while Summer Westmoreland followed right behind in eighth (206.85). The SDSU teammates eclipsed NCAA zone qualifying standards in the preliminaries where Westmoreland (234.45) landed in the seventh spot, just ahead of Konopacke (232.80), who set a season best in the early session.

The Aztec contingent also featured Flagstaff native Alina Skrocki, who claimed her third straight consolation title of the weekend after compiling 249.70 points to surpass an NCAA qualifying mark of her own.

The San Diego State swim and dive program will shift its focus to the Mountain West Championships, slated for Feb. 19-22 in Houston, Texas. The Aztecs are aiming for their fourth consecutive conference title and sixth in the last seven years.
