The heas of the Men’s 400 IM saw a trio of national records fall as Slovakia’s Richard Nagy, Sweden’s Simon Sjoedin, and Luxembourg’s Raphael Stacchiotti (4:08.21) all took down national standards.
Nagy took almost two full seconds off his own national record with a 4:06.03 this morning, thus eclipsing his 4:07.94 from last year’s World Championships. Nagy posted the second fastest time of the prelims session behind Great Britain’s Robert Pavoni (4:05.94), and he now holds both the SCM and LCM national records for Slovakia.
Sjoedin also broke his own national record with his 4:06.67 effort this morning. This morning’s swim chopped 0.17 seconds off his previous record from last year’s Swedish Short Course National Championships, and he too holds both the short course and long course records for his country.
Finally, Stacchiotti demolished his own national record this morning with a 4:08.21. His previous record of 4:10.91 had stood since the 2011 European Championships that were contested in Szczecin, Poland.
