The Hong Kong Swimming Association has revealed its 16-strong lineup headed to Melbourne for the 2022 FINA Short Course World Championships. The roster is comprised of 10 women and 6 men, with the likes of Siobhan Haughey, Stephanie Au and newcomer Adam Chillingworth among the racers.
Haughey is coming off of a strong showing at the FINA World Cup Series, where the former University of Michigan Wolverine took the Berlin stop trophy. At that stop, Haughey took a trio of freestyle crowns including the 100m, 200m and 400m distances.
At the Indianapolis leg, Haughey punched a new U.S. Open Record in the 100m free, producing a time of 51.00. All told, Haughey swept the 100m and 200m freestyles across all 3 stops of the tour.
On the men’s side, one-time British athlete Chillingworth changed his sporting citizenship to represent Hong Kong in June. The 25-year-old who trains under Zoe Baker in Perth, Australia, already owns national records in the 200m breast in both long course (2:12.17) and short course (2:07.13).
At the 2021 FINA Short Course World Championships, Hong Kong finished 8th in the overall medal table, capturing 2 golds and 1 bronze medal, all at the hands of Haughey. She reaped the top prize in the 100m and 200m freestyle events and earned bronze in the 400m free.
