MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men’s swimming & diving team collected its first win of the 2021-2022 season, defeating Wheaton (Ill.) 127-73 Friday evening at the Klotsche Natatorium.

The Panthers tallied seven individual victories in the meet, with Jack Garcia leading the way with a pair of wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 free. The junior touched the wall at 1:46.80 in the 200 free and finished first in the 100 free at 48.00.

“Always an important meet for us as we build throughout the year,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “It’s the last meet before our midseason championship and it gives us the opportunity to swim events that we typically don’t get to swim during a normal dual meet lineup. We saw a lot of different people in a lot of different events and we saw a lot of lifetime bests and a lot of season bests.”

Jonathan Kollen picked up his second individual win of the season, placing first in the 50 free with a time of 21.90.

Jay Jensen continued his impressive start to the season, posting a time of 4:06.94 in the 400 IM to finish first.

In the 100 backstroke, Ben Huynh collected his second win in the event this season behind a time of 53.94. Jackson Ahrens finished first in the 1000 free (10:23.61) while Robert Petersen took home the top spot in the 500 free (5:02.16).

The 200 medley relay team of Huynh, Carson NiemiecJacob Weber, and Kollen placed first with a time of 1:36.99.

Several Panthers finished runner-up, including Mason Schoof, who placed behind Garcia in the 100 free with a time of 48.23.

Milwaukee will have a week off before traveling for the House of Champions Invitational, hosted by IUPUI. The four-day meet begins on Wednesday, November 17 in Indianapolis, Ind.

“Really happy with today, a lot of standout swims and a lot of standout people,” Clements said. “Very important as we move forward to get those swims down as we prepare for our midseason championships next week.”

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women’s swimming & diving team continued its strong start the season, defeating Wheaton (Ill.) on Friday evening 160-44.

For the third consecutive week, the team showcased its depth, placing scorers in the top two in nearly every event. The Panthers finished with eight individual victories and six runner-up finishes at the meet, along with a pair of relay wins.

Bella Passamani collected a win in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:56.82. Kelen McDaniels finished runner-up in the event, touching the wall at 1:58.50.

Freshman Nhia Caras tallied her fifth individual win of the season, taking home the top spot in the 100 butterfly (58.00). Megan Greenley placed second in the event with a time of 1:00.70.

In the 50 free, Molly Meland and Makaila Scheiblein finished in the top two spots. Meland posted a time of 24.95 while Scheiblein finished close behind at 25.43.

Four other Panthers placed first in their first respective events, as Giulia Guerra Montes (400 IM), Amber Secrist (100 backstroke), Jenna Fistler (500 free), and Betsy Weil (100 breaststroke) all collected wins.

Milwaukee claimed victories in both relays, placing first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.55 and first in the 200 free behind a time of 1:39.34.

Milwaukee, Wis. — The Wheaton men’s and women’s swimming teams traveled north on Friday for a date with a Division I opponent, the Panthers of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The final team scores from the event saw the men’s team fall, 127-73, and the Wheaton women lose, 160-44.

On the men’s side, Dawson Bremner had a successful solo outing, taking first place in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.19. He also finished second in the 200 yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:47.60, less than a full second behind the Panther swimmer who claimed first. Additionally, Bremner helped the Thunder win the 200 yard freestyle relay event, along with teammates Jacob LippiattMason Hodge, and Ben Griffith, who swam the decisive anchor leg.

Anthony Fitzgerald continued his impressive start to the 2021-22 campaign by capturing top honors in the 100 yard breaststroke for the second time in as many meets, coming in with a time of 58.31, making him the only swimmer to finish the race in less than a minute. Fitzgerald, Abe PlimptonAJ Staiti, and Lippiatt teamed up to come in second in the 200 yard medley competition, finishing only .41 seconds behind the victorious Milwaukee quartet. Jacob Lippiatt also finished second in the seven-swimmer 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.35, just .23 seconds ahead of Staiti in third place.


For the Wheaton women’s team, two freshman swimmers led the way on the evening. Katie Yonan won the 1000 yard freestyle event with a total time of 11:13.05 to claim her first solo victory as a Thunder swimmer. Rachel Clancy took second place in the 100 yard breaststroke race, finishing less than a second behind Milwaukee’s winner with a time of 1:09.17. The two aforementioned swimmers also came in third in the 200 yard freestyle relay alongside teammates Alex McKeaney and Carolyn Bubar.

Next up for both Wheaton squads is their home opener against Calvin on Saturday, November 13th. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at noon in Jonathan Lederhouse Natatorium.
